Walliams was judging alongside Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon when the remarks were made. Shortly after the transcript was leaked, the former Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli was announced as David Walliams’ replacement on Britain’s Got Talent in January 2023.

The charismatic children’s author and former Britain’s Got Talent judge, David Walliams, left a lasting impression on young readers during his book tour stop at Lincoln Waterstones on Friday the October 13th. Fans eagerly gathered at the bookstore to meet the acclaimed writer, celebrated for his enchanting works such as “The Boy in the Dress” and “Gangsta Granny,” to get their hands on his latest release, “The Blunders”. Cody James & his mother, Gemma. Pictures by Noah Cole. Gemma James, Cody’s mother, expressed her joy at seeing her son so enthralled by Walliams’ storytelling. “As a parent, it’s wonderful to see the joy that David Walliams’ books bring to my son. He’s an inspiration, and this event has made Cody’s year. We can’t wait to dive into ‘The Blunders’ together.” Writing about unique and empowering characters such as Dennis - a 12 year old football fan who wears a dress to school – and Mr Stink – a homeless man who is befriended by 12 year old Chloe - David has captured our kids’ imaginations in entirely new ways. Creating tender moments alongside laugh-out-loud comedy, David has allowed younger readers to explore completely original stories and meet characters unusual to children’s fiction. Walliams said Pinocchio was one of his favourite stories growing up, and that he wanted to create his own version with a robot police dog who yearned to be a real dog. “It is a comedy adventure story with a group of supervillains, but I hope my readers will find a positive message in there about being whoever you want to be,” he said.

A spokesperson for Britain’s Got Talent said next year’s judging lineup was yet to be finalised and no decision had been taken on whether Walliams would be involved. A report in the Sun, however, stated that he would be leaving the programme after 10 years. The Lincoln Waterstones was abuzz with anticipation as Walliams took the time to greet his adoring readers, sign copies of “The Blunders,” and share stories about his writing process. Among the delighted crowd was 9-year-old Cody James, accompanied by his mother, Gemma, and 10-year-old Maddie Lawley, along with her brother Charlie. Cally Poplak, executive publisher, said: “Hot off the heels of securing the bestselling children’s book of 2022 we couldn’t be more excited to publish David Walliams’ next adventure.
