About this deal

Ashby bought the Wayfarer second-hand and refitted it as a tunnelling ship, acting as captain and personally hiring his own crew. The rest of the crew respect his command of the vessel, trusting him to make the right decision for all of them. In part, this is because Ashby treats most of the crew as his friends, and consults them on important decisions where possible. He has a particularly close relationship with Sissix, and they regularly play chess together. At the same time, this present narrative is interspersed with another story from the past, one following the incredible journey of a young girl named Jane 23. This was Pepper’s childhood, which began in a facility whose sole purpose was to churn out bio-engineered clones for use as cheap and disposable labor. The clones are treated poorly, kept sheltered and ignorant, and only taught enough to perform their functions. Though eventually Jane manages to break free of the factory, her struggles continue as she learns the hard way about the truths of the galaxy. Life is terrifying. None of us have a rule book. None of us know what we are doing here. So, the easiest way to stare reality in the face and not utterly lose your shit is to believe you have control over it. If you believe you have control, then you believe that you’re at the top. And if you’re at the top, then people who aren’t like you...well, they’ve got to be somewhere lower, right? Every species does this. Does it again and again and again.” (P. 326)

CHARACTERS. My god, the personalities were fantastic! T he Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet Audiobook Free. This was excellent novel/series for me due to the fact that what I enjoy in the novel is well-crafted characters. Chambers had simply that. I can not claim who I liked the most because every personality had an unique voice and I was able as a viewers to connect per of them in various ways. First sentence: “Lovelace had been in a body for twenty-eight minutes, and it still felt every bit as wrong as it had the second she woke up.”Or, directly named, neoliberalism, the degenerated, world eating monster child of neocolonialism, racism, neoconservatism, and turbocapitalism (far too many lunatic parents and many other incestuous gene pools), our super duper doctrine and driving force of all political, environmental, and social decisions. Easy, extremely stupid premise: Be an egoistic, megalomaniac, intolerant, bigoted, hate filled, etc. person or society, and everything turns out great for everyone. Completely logical. Now that we know a little bit more about the different species, which one do you find most interesting? Chapter 18: Hedra Ka: Ashby and the crew of The Wayfarer arrive at Hedra Ka, a flurry of activity with ships of different species all around. Elsewhere, the different factions of the Toremi Ka meet and discuss the ‘intrusion’ of The Wayfarer. The crew gathers with other GC officials on a different ship. Most of the crew is mingling but Corbin and Ohan stayed about The Wayfarer. The crew discuss time off after the job and Kizzy invites Rosemary to her dads’ to stay. The Toremi enter which creeps everyone out. The Toremi are carrying guns which Rosemary identifies as guns her father sold. A Toremi named Toum overhears Rosemary talking with Chef about not interfering with the war of the Toremi. The Wayfarer is ready to make the punch, running smoother than ever. Ohan is degrading fast but they express thankfulness for their time on the crew. Suddenly, a Toremi ship fires on The Wayfarer, ripping a hole in the ship and causing it to begin to fall. Chapter 17: Heresy: Kizzy informs Ashby that they need a part replaced before too long if they want fresh food. Only place that might have the part they need is a fringe planet that doesn’t even had a star to keep them warm. The colony replies to Ashby’s message and it turns out to be a Sianat like Ohan. They apparently are a colony of Solitary, called heretics. Ohan is not happy when they find out Ashby and Kizzy left to talk to the Heretics. Ohan is worried Ashby will listen to the Heretics and they will ‘end’ them. Rosemary assures them that’s not the case. Ashby and Kizzy meet with the one they communicated with, called Mas. The planet is called Arun, and it is the escape beyond infection, which Ohan would know but wouldn’t speak of it.

I have previously referred to books like A Closed and Common Orbit as transition books. What I mean by this is that it is the middle book in a trilogy that seems to me more of a transition between the first and last book than a stand-alone story. I suppose it doesn’t have to be the middle book in a trilogy – it could be any book in a series that does have that major-build-up-to-a-climax stand-alone feel. But, if you completely left it out, the next book may not make quite as much sense. That all being said, you can probably tell by now that I was not particularly wowed by this book, but I appreciate it as part of the narrative. Ashby has to go to a meeting with the GC council to tell them what happened. He says he doesn’t understand why they want to ally with a species that loses their temper and starts shooting so easily. The council seem to listen because they announce later than the alliance is cancelled, or at least on hold.Chapter 4: Tip Off: Captain Ashby has a conference with Yoshi, a member of the Transport Board who gives jobs to the crew of The Wayfarer. Yoshi suggests that maybe The Wayfarer is ready for higher level work. Ashby disagrees as The Wayfarer doesn’t have the right equipment for it. Yoshi informs Ashby that there’ll be some interesting work coming down the line. Yoshi also tells Ashby to follow the news the next five days as well. Yes, I cried a little in the book! That's what I do people! Don't judge me! Lol, it was a good cry though =) At the end of February 2013, she announced the book's completion, and acquired a literary agent; [4] the book was published by Hodder & Stoughton in 2015.

This time, I won't keep my suspicions to myself: if you do not find this book enjoyable, you need to witness a little village of Whos holding hands and singing even though you just stole their Christmas Beast.** Or, just possibly, it is completely not your style of book. I'm fairly certain those are the only two choices here. Change the plan you will roll onto at any time during your trial by visiting the “Settings & Account” section. What happens at the end of my trial? This is my first time reading this novel and I’ve had this series on my TBR for way too long! I’m excited to read this together with you all, for the first time! It promises to be a fun filled, scifi romp through the cosmos aboard the Wayfarer, out titular ship who’s adventures we will be following in this book. It’s going to be a chaotic and crazy ride! Strap yourselves in! The Sidra side of the narrative concerns her adaptation into a life as a mobile sentient entity. Basically what we do on a daily basis, and it is much harder than it seems. As a ship AI she has cameras all over the ship, flying off into space with a crew inside her. As Sidra, her perspective is radically different, she is limited her eyes field of vision. The social mores of the multi-species Galactic Commons takes getting used to, the “honesty protocol” programmed into her greatly adds to her difficulties. Soon she begins to develop an existential crisis, feeling alienated, not fitting in anywhere, f

Rosemary Harper doesn’t expect much when she joins the crew of the aging Wayfarer. While the patched-up ship has seen better days, it offers her a bed, a chance to explore the far-off corners of the galaxy, and most importantly, some distance from her past. An introspective young woman who learned early to keep to herself, she’s never met anyone remotely like the ship’s diverse crew, including Sissix, the exotic reptilian pilot, chatty engineers Kizzy and Jenks who keep the ship running, and Ashby, their noble captain.

Artis Corbin – Human, and the ship's algaeist. With a short temper, and not as friendly as the rest of the crew, he prefers not to leave the algae labs where he grows the Wayfarer's fuel. The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet is a fairly unique book in its structure. While there was an overarching story that everything ties into, reading it felt more like watching an episodic TV show. Each chapter almost felt like a short story - they all tied into the main story, but only rarely referenced each other. It was certainly a fun way to read a book, and one that I can't recall ever really encountering before. When I see the ocean, I feel calm. It makes me want to’ – to keep eating candy – ‘to keep going. To keep trying new things. To keep living.’ This novel with its mouthful of a title focuses on the crew of the Wayfarer, contractors who build tunnels (wormholes, I think?) that connect distant areas of the Galactic Commons. We follow this diverse, not-exclusively-human cast of characters on their journey to the eponymous planet. This novel has been described as 'slice-of-life' fiction, with not much in the way of plotting and a heavy emphasis on the everyday lives of the characters - the Long Way features much more than the Small, Angry Planet. Jenks – The Wayfarer's other technician. Human and shorter than most people in the Galactic Commons, but chooses not to get this changed.
