About this deal

The Canon EOS R5 is, however, smarter than the 5D. The R5 recognizes the Sigma 18-35mm’s crop factor and automatically changes its Cropping/Aspect Ratio setting to “1.6x (crop)”. APS-C lenses automatically enable “1.6x (crop)”. All other options disabled. Katie swinging, 01 December 2013. ( Nikon D7100, Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 at 18mm, f/9 at 1/320 at ISO 100, Athentech Perfectly Clear.) bigger. Close-up image quality isn't bad either, at least when stopped down a bit. The image is soft wide open, but sharpens up pretty well in the centre at F2.8. The corners rather lag behind, but continue to improve on stopping down until our flat test chart shot looks sharp corner-to-corner at F11. There's minimal distortion, and only the slightest hint of blue/yellow chromatic aberration. Colour balance What makes a standard lens ideal for you? Certain important qualities are required, such as fast maximum aperture, versatility for snap shots, portraiture and indoor photography plus a good combination of a wide range of focal lengths in a compact design. SIGMA 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM is the first zoom lens ever to achieve a maximum aperture of f1.8 throughout the zoom range. It is a wide aperture, standard zoom-lens for digital single lens reflex camera's with APS-C size sensor's. *1The lens has a focal range equivalent to 27mm - 52.5mm in a 35mm format and it can cover the angles of view of multiple fixed focal length lenses. This wide aperture, standard zoom lens enables the photographer to expand creative possibilities on any occasion.

I'd leave either a 72mm Nikon Clear (NC - UV) filter, a 72mm Hoya Alpha MC UV or bulletproof 72mm Hoya HD2 UV on the lens at all times. Nikon 35mm f/1.8 DX for a fraction of the price. On Canon, the classic professional Canon 35mm f/1.4 L is a steal today, and a much better long-term investment than this consumer zoom. Sigma uses crappy caps. Leave them in the box for resale, and buy the real Nikon or Canon caps to use with this lens instead. If you compare the colours in this rollover, we think you'll really struggle to see any significant differences between the two lenses at all. This doesn't come as much of a surprise to us, but it might to some sceptics. Flash shadowing The ribbed rubber rings grip well, but have sharp ridges and are much less comfortable than pro lenses.Despite its limitations when shooting stills, the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 is surprisingly great for video on the R5. Here’s why. Large f/1.8 aperture For wildlife photographers who need additional reach, or photographers who only publish images online, 18 megapixels may be enough. But for me, 18 megapixels is a big drop in resolution, so I would not use the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 for my own still photography. Ghost resistance isn't very good by modern standards due to the less efficient coatings used by Sigma compared to professional-grade brands, but most of the time these ghosts are artistically quite helpful to communicate an enveloping sense of light: At short distances, this lens is practically parfocal (focus distance settings remains the same throughout the zoom range).

The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 is an affordable lens with fantastic “Sigma Art” image quality, sharpness, and performance when shooting video on the Canon EOS R5. Its large aperture is well suited for shooting video in low light environments, its “35mm effective” 27-52mm focal length is just right, and you may capture high quality 4K video without overheating. With a Sigma Global Vision lens, determining the answer to this question is very easy – just prefix a "2" to the three-digit number engraved near the lens mount. The total light has nothing to do with the exposure, it's the intensity of light (light per unit area) at the sensor that matters (right?). A smaller sensor doesn't mean you need a higher ISO to shoot at the same equivalent exposure. If that were the case the center of a FF would be 1 stop darker than the rest by the above logic. The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC has fantastic optics — but its mechanics and potential camera incompatibility are why you pay less for Sigma than for professional Nikon or Canon lenses. a sweet loaner car (my car was in the shop) and this lens needing a workout provided far more motivation than I needed to schedule a day trip to

We do realise, however, that bokeh evaluation is subjective, so we've included several 100% crops for your perusal. A clear distance scale in both feet and meters runs from the closest focusing distance of 0.28m / 0.92 ft to infinity. Canary Palm at f/1.8 at 18mm. 24MP DX Nikon D7100, f/1.8 at 1/800 at ISO 100. Full-resolution (5 MB; the palm isn't flat so much isn't in focus). Weighing in at 810 grams and measuring 12cm in length, the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM is a big lens given its modest focal length. As seen in the photos below, it complements a camera like the Canon EOS 700D / Rebel T5i very well.

Same thing, but in focus at f/10. If this is 6" (15cm) wide on your monitor, the entire image printed at this same high magnification would be 60 x 40" (1.5 x 1 meters). I'm happy to report that the 18-35 shows only slight effects from coma in only the extreme frame corners.Another factor making the relatively short focal length range more palatable is the image quality this lens delivers. The Sigma 18-35 has an attractive, clean, slender, smooth design that, if I haven't made it clear already, I like a lot. The were 15 other identical images, but I couldn't see the point of boring you with the rest of the samples. As can be seen in the dial control image above, this lens can create a very strong blur at 35mm if the subject is close and the aperture is wide. Featuring Sigma's HSM (Hypersonic Motor) driven AF, the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens focuses with very good speed.

Sigma has a long history as a lens maker, having been founded over 50 years ago. In the film era it was best known for relatively inexpensive lenses that undercut the camera makers' own equivalents in terms of price. But this has changed over the part decade or so; while other companies have shifted manufacturing to cheaper locations such as China and Thailand, Sigma has stubbornly refused to move from its factory in Aizu, Japan. This means it can no longer compete in the same way on price alone, and it's therefore switched its focus towards higher-value offerings. I've had the 18-35 mounted to my 60D and available for immediate use since it arrived over two weeks ago. In this set of evaluations, we’ve compared the Sigma zoom with the highest performing full-frame primes of the same focal lengths – 18mm, 24mm and 35mm. While it might seem a little unusual, the lenses (all high speed models) reflect the state of the art in that format and when mounted on an APS-C DSLR offer the same angle of view (at each focal length) as the Sigma. My APS-C format general purpose lens minimum focal length range recommendation is 18-45mm, which relates to 28.8-72mm in full frame format. The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC has moderately strong barrel distortion at the wider end and moderately strong pincushion distortion at the longer end. Christmas Lights at f/1.8.
