About this deal

I love the discussions we have had after reading this book; Mr D in particular is unsure if the tiger is real or not… and I love that he is at this stage of his comprehension at the moment too where he can ask questions and I can help aid his understanding of the story. The story touches on some lovely philosophical ideas which can be challenging for adults let alone children to consider, but it does so in such a gentle way.

In an attempt to cure her granddaughter's boredom, a grandmother casually mentions that there is a tiger in her garden. The resulting, fruitful search is enough to dent the certainty of even the most sceptical of child explorers!

They really enjoyed making these items and we also followed it up with these split pin tigers and bears– although these were done in the first couple of days after Mr H arrived and I didn’t manage to get pictures. Board book edition of the best-selling winner of the Waterstones Childrens Book Prize, Illustrated Book Category. Pull the pin and throw or drop Seedboms into areas that are in need of brightening up. Seedboms like bare soil, natural light and to be kept damp whilst growing. Full instructions are included on inside of each Seedbom sleeve. We hope to create a relaxed environment for all performances and welcome SEND families to any of our shows. This year we will also be creating one specific SEND performance accompanied by a visual story. If you can't make this performance but hope to attend another show with a family member who would benefit from this, please let us know.

When Grandma says she’s seen a tiger in the garden, Nora doesn’t believe her. She’s too old to play grandma’s silly games! Everyone knows that tigers live in jungles, not gardens. So even when Nora sees dragonflies as big as birds, and plants that try and eat her toy giraffe, and a polar bear that likes fishing, she knows there’s absolutely, DEFINITELY no way there could be a tiger in the garden . . . Could there? On an already prepared garden mural, children can draw on separate paper, or cut from magazines, picture of animals to place on scene to make a collage. For the dragonflies I got out various crafty items, tissue paper, sequins and the such and drew some very rough dragonflies for the children to decorate. They had great fun adding the bits and pieces to them and decorating them up.

If and when the weather brightens up I plan to set up a little hunt for the children in our own garden – I’m going to get a picture of dragonflies, a polar bear and a tiger and make into a jigsaw; hiding the pieces around out garden for them to find; although the way our weather is at the moment that could be some time away! This book has great read aloud potential and would make a lovely lap read with a little one cuddled up before bed. It would also be a good story time book for the young set with opportunities for audience input when they see things in the visual narrative Nora doesn’t.LIZZY STEWART has been a freelance illustrator since graduation from Edinburgh College of Art in 2009.
