About this deal

Green is the prime colour of the world and that from which it's loveliness arises"- Pedro Calderon De La Barca 🌳 By helping households be more aware of their energy consumption and encourage positive behaviours to reduce energy usage, SmartThings Energy offers a category-defining energy saving service for everyone, irrespective of who their energy provider is.” Live data, coming soon, will drive benefits of SmartThings Energy even further Chameleon’s IHDs vary in terms of available features and functions so the following videos below should give you a clear understanding of how to use and get the most out of your IHD. Hildebrand have developed their products further, and their CAD now supports MQTT locally and in the cloud.

The comms hub uses the Wide Area Network (WAN) to talk to the company responsible for collecting the data and passing it on to other businesses such as suppliers; for the latest SMETS 2 meters this company will be the DCC (Data Communications Company) which the government has set up especially for this role. Hugo is a free app which allows you to see yearly, monthly, weekly and daily bar charts for electricity and gas. You can set a budget as a challenge to spend less and reduce energy wastage. Consumers are still left with few mainstream options for getting real time smart meter e nergy usage info onto anything but an IHD. The Glow IHD is an option for example. It may be possible in the future according to one of my sources. They prefer not to be named but they’re a very reliable one. A CAD is a Consumer Access Device which provides access to your meter data through WiFi. These are relatively new and usually integrated into the IHD (In Home Display) provided by suppliers. One example of such a device is the Chameleon IHD3.

Chameleon’s technology enables smart meter data to be available in SmartThings

It took a few days for mine .. I think they use Royal Mail and of course, there’s a few delays at present MoneySavingExpert.com is part of the MoneySuperMarket Group, but is entirely editorially independent. Its stance of putting consumers first is protected and enshrined in the legally-binding MSE Editorial Code.

Loop connects to DCC to access meter data which means you can usually see updates every 2 hours. Live data is not available. Using APIs (Application Programming Interface) programmers can access customer data through targeted requests. The data retrieved can be processed and displayed. Hildebrand Glowmarkt APII just wonder why why we cannot have a kind of serial port from the meters/communication device, just like all European countries do for decades now. If it’s been more than 12 months, the warranty will have expired and I’m afraid you will no longer qualify for a free replacement. You may still have options anyway though, which are detailed further down. Your supplier may also be willing to send a replacement for a small fee so it’s worth asking anyway. Before trying that though, it’s worth seeing if you can self-recover. :) The other advantage I see for the Ivie is that by connecting over wifi it can be moved around the house and be much further away from the meter so can be put somewhere more convenient (my current Trio II IHD needs to be within 2 metres). There also appears to be (or going to be) the ability to link to Smartthings app and access the data on mobile or tablet and presumably remotely as well. Octopus Energy provides a REST API for customers and partner organisations to interact with their platform. Amongst other things, it provides functionality for:

I don’t think there is a way to fix that until they finish their development. But now I can return the device under the full warranty condition, instead of “unhappy return”. Hardly unbelievable they would get this kind of bug around.

Live data, coming soon, will drive benefits of SmartThings Energy even further

It would only be logical though if " the big selling point of smart meters to consumers is that with the IHD, they can see their usage, real times costs etc and hopefully reduce their usage" was the real reason behind the smart meter rollout, but of course it isn't. The SSE Smart Energy Monitor (manufactured by Onzo) likewise no longer exists and is incompatible with SMETS1 and SMETS2 anyway. You can no longer get those devices from Onzo either because they’re no longer manufactured - and quality issues with the rechargeable batteries you probably don’t want to keep using them anyway. Your smart metering system is a complex system of several parts, including the smart meter, the communications hub and the In-Home Display. As Chameleon Technology only provides the In-Home Display, and as each energy supplier has different smart metering equipment, solutions and policies, Chameleon Technology is not able to provide direct assistance to customers with In-Home Display issues. Enerj’s Infrared Electric panel heater measures 59.5 x 119.5 cm and can be mounted on a wall or ceiling or even kept free-standing. It’s totally noise free and the company states it’s up to 70% less costyl than traditional heating systems. Draught excluder

Access to your meter readings and more detailed consumption data from your Smart Meter was not a priority for the Smart Metering Programme, so it has taken a few years for services to become available. The concept from the beginning was for third parties to provide Consumer Access Devices (CAD) to allow customers to retrieve their own data.It feels to me like it would have been better for Chameleon to delay launching the device until they had more features ready. Firstly, what is the ivie Bud exactly? Well, it’s a Chameleon IHD that’s branded as being ivie as part of this new venture Chameleon are working on. Physically the ivie Bud looks very much like the existing IHD6 and it basically is - except that it’s actually a re-badged Chameleon IHD7-CAD-PPMID v1.2. More on that later. The comms hub uses the Home Area Network (HAN) to talk to the electricity, gas and IHD (In Home Display) devices. To save battery power the gas meter communicates only every half-hour and so the comms hub stores a copy of the gas meter data for querying when required. This copy is known as the gas mirror or Gas Proxy (GPF). It is a shame the device doesn't yet have real time integration with an ivie app or Smartthings or an api. Energy usage breakdowns clearly show which habits and activities, such as laundry or appliances that are always left on, are using the most energy in the home. Users are given a clear direction on what steps they can take next in each area through personalised energy-savings tips and challenges based on their energy usage.
