About this deal

And so on to the less desirable aspects of on-ears. After a while, the SoundMagic P23BT can pinch around the earlobes. I found it wasn’t too discomforting but it’s noticeable, nevertheless. The only pair of on-ears that have managed to avoid this issue are the Marshall Major IV and they came with chunky pads. The headphones come with an auxiliary cable that includes a microphone. That means if you’re into online gaming or online conference calls, you can be confident your voice will come through loud and clear.

When it comes to comfort, the P23BT headphones feel pretty good on the ears. They’re lightweight and the foam earpads feel reasonably soft. These are a nice change from the bulky full-sized headphones that I’m used to wearing and definitely feel more suitable for portable use. Battery LifeSub bass rumble can definitely be felt, also the mid bass thump is pretty much very present but not to the point where it’s distracting All in all, I would definitely recommend this to someone who is in the lookout for an affordable and high quality sound headphone. When it comes to the sound, ironically, I like the Bluetooth mode more, it is more organic sounding and more palatable in Bluetooth compared to wired. Yeap, P23BT will sound much cleaner and has more clarity with wired, however the treble is weirdly boosted and there’s a weird dip at around 100 Hz in wired mode. I’ve tried different dongles, yet, I still can’t seem to like P23BT sound in wired mode. I don’t know but my theory is there’s some processing happening inside the Bluetooth module of the P23BT that fixes the dip and makes the treble smoother. The sound quality is similar to the WH-CH520 on-ears in that it takes on a smooth and bassy tone. Bass is punchy, the midrange is clear and detailed, and the upper frequencies and bright and clear enough to have some impact. The Final UX300 offer a more insightful performance (at least with its noise-cancelling off), but they aren’t as affordable as the Sony headphones, nor do they boast as many features for day-to-day use either.

The SoundMagic P23BT are very lightweight to the point that they feel pretty flimsy. They have a foldable design so that they easily bend together to fit into your bag when you're not using them. The ear cups are made from memory foam so while - to the touch - they don't feel premium, they feel good on your ears and the lightweight design ensures that they never feel cumbersome. The WH-CH720N are part of Sony’s refresh of its affordable budget range of headphones, and we feel they offer a strong overall performance for the asking price. The P23BT is my second encounter with a fairly neutral and reference-like tuning without severely boosting any given part of the frequency range. Truth to be told the built of this headphone is so-so, all parts are plastic except the hinges and screws, it does not have the premium feel, however I think this is quite okay for the price. The drivers can be rotated 180 degrees and can be folded to fit in the included carrying pouch (pictures above). Typically, on-ear headphones are short in terms of features, and SoundMagic P23BT won’t change minds on that front. Looking at the spec sheet, the P23BT have tried to etch out as much performance as they can. Verdict:I’ve always had a soft spot for SoundMAGIC. The brand makes some of the best value headphones on the market and they never stint on the tech specs. You will always get a little extra from SoundMAGIC. In the case of the P23BT you get the apt HD audio codec and a wired boom microphone that’s ideal for gaming or making business calls or video chats. The sound of these headphones is punchy and focused with clear upper frequencies underpinned by a solid bass and an extended midrange. There’s really nothing to dislike here. If you’re looking for an affordable pair of Bluetooth headphones that double as a wired headset for gaming, the SoundMAGIC P23BT is an ideal solution. These headphones would make an affordable gift for a gamer who loves music. The mids are recessed with an added touch of warmth. This makes the male vocals more forward and highlighted more than the female vocals. In conjunction to the bump in the lower mids, the upper mids are toned down a bit, causing the female vocals and instruments in this section to sound slightly muffled or veiled.

Tested both external and built-in microphone with Microsoft Teams meeting, the other party can hear my voice clearly At this moment in time, the list covers over-ears, on-ears and true wireless to appeal a variety of users. This is only the beginning as we’ll be adding more entries if they are deserving of it. With 10 minute charge you get 5 hours playtime through the 400mAh large capacity lithium battery and continuous play of 54-60 hours on full charge. A staggering 50 days standby time means you don't need to ever worry about being caught out with an empty battery.

Excellent, Bluetooth 5.0 range is quite exceptional. I tested P23BT range within our house vicinity, and through my testing, the max range I can get is around 11 meters. This is accounting the randomly placed walls as obstruction in its range. The headphone was run for about 80 hours prior to listening evaluation which besides the Bluetooth mode was also performed with the SoundMAGIC A30 and ddHiFi TC35B Pro. Thanks to the included NFC pairing chip on the ear cup, pairing is as easy as waving your NFC-enabled smartphone over that location. Standard Bluetooth pairing will work just as well too. I know this is something most people use rather infrequently (pair once, and go) but I do like little inclusions like this.

SoundMagic doesn’t really do a lot of marketing hence they don’t really stand out among the competitors, but they do make good stuffs too like the P60BT that I reviewed previously. Internally, the P23BT utilizes 40mm dynamic drivers. There’s no active noise cancellation but during normal use, these are still suitable for most normal environments such as commuting etc. Focusing on the sound quality itself, I’d say the asking price is a steal considering the sound itself is really good. However, the only let down I’d say is the build quality, which to me feels rather filmsy, but that’s understandable, possibly to drive the cost down. It’s been a while since we last heard from SoundMagic. Years ago, they were the brand to seek out for affordable wired and wireless headphones, but after releasing their first true wireless, things went a little quiet.Amazing Stereo Hi-Fi Sound: 40mm high quality dynamic drivers deliver you superior Hi-Fi sound quality with large soundstage and high resolution. Support APTX HD, high quality music transmission, let you hear every detail of your favorite songs. Also perfect for gaming with accurate bass response and crystal clear treble. It is ideal for audio lovers and gamers. The right ear cup has the model number and some SoundMAGIC branding, along with the NFC pairing location. On the left ear cup is where the majority of the functionality exists. There is a small power button and AUX port on the bottom edge to be used with the integrated microphone. Additionally, there’s a USB Type-C charging port on the top edge, covered by a rubber flap. They blend quite well with the instruments in a very satisfying and cohesive way and the same goes for the higher pitched members of the orchestra that sound sparkling and agile. I was really having a tough time running down the battery, connected via AAC and playing music at 50% volume, looping it 8 hours a day, from Monday to Friday, I am left with 25% still at Friday night. It’s really amazing (Do note that YMMV, as different codec might consume more/less battery life, also the volume)
