About this deal

South East London, 1957: Jean Swinney is a reporter for a local London paper, normally consigned to the kind of article that revolves around gardening and handy household tips. They will all be sharing their BYOBs – the book they want to share with the world, because it really means something to them: some are surprising, some are classics and some will be new to the audience but the hope is that viewers will come away from every episode with an exciting new reading list. I don't want to belittle it, because any is awful and it does shape how you are for the rest of your life, but on a bullying scale, it's not that bad. In each episode, Sara Cox and her guests review some of the most exciting new and recent book releases, as well as sharing their own reading secrets. I’m guessing this is the first of many autobiography’s as she’s obviously still young but there’s only so much about living on a farm I care to read about.

I think this book was pretty much what I expected from Sara Cox - light hearted, humorous (but not lol) and easy to whizz through. Separated by many miles and just as many lies, what will happen when their own daughters’ storylines intersect? So if you're of the 70s or 80s, you're interested in Northern England at that time, or you're interested in farm tales, this could actually be an interesting book to read, even if you've never heard of Sara Cox.

With many book clubs across the country either not going ahead or happening entirely online, Between The Covers gives BBC audiences everywhere the opportunity to take part in a nationwide TV book club.

Her family had its fair share of dramas as she says herself, but they clearly provided a loving foundation for her life. She later had stints on Channel 5 entertainment show Exclusive and Channel 4 music programme Born Sloppy. On 23 June 2013, Cox tweeted a picture to announce she had just married her long-term boyfriend and fiancé Ben Cyzer.I hope I’ve not got tinnitus from stuffing my noise-cancelling earbuds in and booming Max Richter straight into my brain. In October 2020, Cox launched and presented Between the Covers on BBC Two, a seven-episode book programme, renewing for five series, as of December 2022. Cox was born Sarah Joanne Cox on 13 December 1974, but later dropped the use of the letter 'h' from her first name. Weaving together multiple strands and generations of this family, from the Deep South to California, from the 1950s to the 1990s, Brit Bennett produces a story that is at once a riveting, emotional family story and a brilliant exploration of the American history of passing. There are some lol moments and some saccharine sweet moments that I could just about stomach but as I said it was easy to forgive the negatives as there was such enthusiasm in the writing.
