About this deal

When the rotary cutter and rulers all but eliminated the inaccuracies that a pencil lead caused, the only thing that a piece quilter needed to learn was how the rotary cutter’s ruler is used, or placed on the fabric. The placement inaccuracies of the ruler dictates where the accurate 1/4 inch seam allowance line is. This seam guide is easy to place and remove, but holds steady as a fabric guide. What about a straight-stitch machine where the needle doesn’t move? Do you like to sew? What is the thing you struggle with the most?I asked my readers and by far the most common response was this – how to sew a straight line? How to keep a stitching line straight? If you need to change your sewing machine’s needle for a new project but think your old needle is still good, you can use a needle sorting pincushion to keep it in a safe place. I like the idea because the little boxes are labeled so you can easily see what type of needles you are storing. I recently saw an ITH embroidery pattern for a needle parking pincushion that is basically the same thing. I don’t typically save my sewing machine needles because I like to know I am using a fresh one, but I see that this Madam Sew product has merit. Is perfect piecing your thing? Do you want more accurate seams than your sewing machines needle plate markings are able to give?

For this seam guide to work, you will need to find some stitching lines that are already on the fabric. Or you can use the edge of the fabric as the first line. As you probably already know (but maybe not if you’re new to quilting): a ¼″ seam allowance is the gold-standard in quilting. All quilt patterns are written with a ¼″ seam allowance built into the cutting and piecing directions (unless otherwise noted.) In fact, it’s not really so easy and you may have a problem doing that, especially if you like to sew fast. In the end, I just have to cut between the stitching lines using my rotary cutter and I have two pieces like this. With this Seam Guide Ruler you can set your stitches accurately on any sewing machine. With the free Magnetic Seam Guide you can easily keep that exact distance when sewing.Find a small opening on the foot holder. Insert the quilting bar into the opening and slide the bar to set the width of the seams you want. There are many different types of seam guides. Some of them you even got together with your sewing machine. And others are pretty cheap to buy. Seam guide attachment from the sewing machine accessories This laser seam guide is very useful for quilting. Let me show you how to stitch half-square triangles very fast using the laser guide. I am going to use my ¼ in seam allowances presser foot. In addition, this convenient device saves you time. You don’t need to mark stitching lines with markers or pins. You don’t need to rip seams that are not straight because they will be straight. I was taught the reason for a scant has to do with how sharp the pencil lead is. Meaning, keeping the lead sharp. A dull lead makes a wider line, and you will have to use guess work to decide where the needle is placed on the line. That guess work is scant.

My sewing machine seam guide attachment extends to a maximum width of around 2″. But there are longer seam guides available. Some people advise using a piece of elastic with sewn-together edges. It works about the same as the painter’s tape. And of course elastic is something you will use in other projects anyway, so you might as well buy it in bulk. The big plus of this seam allowance guide is that it can be used with almost ANY presser foot. For example, I use a walking foot for quilts very often and the seam guide is perfect for sewing straight with the walking foot. I can topstitch leather using special presser feet for leather. Typically lining up the edge of your fabric with the right side of your presser foot is a good guide for keeping your seam allowance consistent. Some newer sewing machines come with a specific ¼″ quilter’s foot with a seam allowance marked by the edge of the presser foot being ¼″ away from the needle. You get an extra Magnetic Seam Guide with this ruler to make sure you keep that exact distance while sewing. You can just attach this little metal seam guide temporarily on most needle plates or metal sewing machines. The seam guide will not shift when you are sewing. These inexpensive little gadgets will change your sewing and will really help keep stitching lines perfectly straight. They are essential items in your sewing room. During sewing, run the edge of the fabric exactly along the seam guide and you will get a perfectly straight stitching line. I would avoid a scant ¼″ if you’re sewing with flannel or other loosely woven fabric that might fray.

With this device, it’s easy to control the width of the allowances when sewing on a sewing machine. This is how it looks, there is a strong magnet under the metal case. On the right you can see that the seam lies just slightly – maybe only a thread’s width – inside the ¼″ line. This, my friends, is a scant ¼″. Fourth– You can easily stitch inner curves. For this place the narrow edge of the guide with curve down. The magnet is very strong, it does not move when sewing even with hard heavyweight fabrics, and adjusts to any position on the metal throat plate of a sewing machine.Keep in mind – you don’t have to have a specific ¼″ foot to get an accurate ¼″ seam allowance. For years sewing on my old 1979 metal machine I only used the basic foot the machine came with and adjusted my needle close to the edge of the fabric. And from the large number of tools used to help sew straight, dedicated, or improvised, we can deduce how important this task is for someone who sews. Someone has said somewhere that nobody will notice if you are a genius, but everyone will notice if one of your buttons is missing; I guess it is equally true that everyone will notice if one of the seams of your garment is crooked! That’s what it looks like. It has two plastic pieces and a small square ruler with grid lines and small holes for a needle. The magnetic SEAM guide is designed for smooth stitching at different distances from the fabric edge.
