About this deal

Product Design (H006) focuses on consumer products and applications, and their analysis in respect of:

development and are communicated through a variety of methods and techniques which are mostly appropriate. In year 12 opportunities will be given to practice crucial coursework skills including workload management, sketching and visual communication techniques, modelling, research skills, product analysis, creative designing and some practical skills. Knowledge will also be built on topics such as manufacturing processes theory, materials and their properties and relevant mathematical concepts. Students will apply these skills and knowledge through small projects, tasks and exam questions.Students demonstrate their ability to critically analyse a current product in relation to a given context and propose realistic improvements or adaptations in response to the needs of stakeholders. They design and develop further iterations of it, enabling them to fully appreciate how the life-cycle of a product is reviewed, developed and extended for the relevant marketplace to their endorsed title. To enable students to develop the industry standard skills they need for visual communication and virtual testing students are expected to work through an additional CAD course independently, which runs alongside the A-level. There is distinct content for each of endorsed titles, covering underlying core principles of design and technology. The examined content is assessed in components 01. The content for the product development, component 02/03, is more generic but specific application will be determined by the focus of the endorsed title selected:
