About this deal

This basically means that the information conveyed through the lens would be larger than the camera sensor’s area, which essentially leaves out or “crops” the image thereby causing a “zoom” relative to the full size of the image. The Sony SEL24105G FE 24-105mm f/4 OSS G Lens sitting on a postal scale While it’s not ideal to have to bring two cameras on a trip, I can better manage this on a road trip.

There are no color fringes as shot on Sony cameras, most of which by default correct for any that may be there.

Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS Hands-on Review Summary

The Sony SEL24105G lens has an image stabilizer, which is called the Optical Steady Shot or OSS in the Sony lingo. This long exposure 1/6-second shot of Undine Falls was taken without a tripod Therefore, the Sony SEL24105G lens has been my go to lens as it’s pretty much almost always attached to my Sony Alpha 7 III full-frame mirrorless camera body.

As a result, I can see why the Sony SEL24105G lens is widely regarded as Sony’s best all-around lens, which is precisely what I need for the myriad of situations that I often encounter in my travels. Very Capable Of Taking Sharp Photos Without A Tripod For reasons that I’ll get into later in the article, this Sony lens does have limitations with its zoom range since it doesn’t skimp on image quality. So in this section, here are some of the things to be aware of concerning this lens. Limited Zoom The zoom on the Sony SEL24105G could only do so much to bring this bird hovering over Sheepeater Canyon closer to frame Ever since I’ve made the switch from a Canon EOS DSLR camera body with associated zoom lenses (especially the Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens) to the Sony Alpha 7 III mirrorless camera body, I’ve been looking for at least similar zoom and functionality. At 105mm, the lens' longest focal length, performance continues to impress. If you don't require an F2.8 max aperture, the greater zooming capabilities of the FE 24-105mm F4 are a big reason why a photographer may opt for it over Sony's fantastic 24-70mm F2.8 GM and GM II pro zooms. Of course, price is also a factor, but I think the extra 35mm at the long end is very nice.I ran some rough tests on the Sony FE 24-105 f/4 G at 24mm, 50mm and 105mm using a basic lens chart with an A7RII shooting RAW. Wow, what a lens! It out-performs pretty much every 35mm film zoom I've ever owned, and many of the primes, especially wide angles. Here's an image shot wide-open at 105mm, and it's ultra-sharp corner to corner. You can't ask any more of a lens than this:

The Sony FE 24-105mm f4G OSS, or SEL24105G, is a general-purpose zoom for its e-mount mirrorless cameras and corrected for use on full-frame bodies. Mounted on a full-frame body it delivers the classic wide to short telephoto range, making it an ideal walk-around lens; mount it on a cropped-frame body and the field is reduced to 36-158mm, making it an ideal partner to an ultra-wide zoom like the E 10-18mm. Granted, this was something I wasn’t that conscious of since I’ve had similar functionality with my old Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens, but after switching to the Sony cameras and lenses, I’ve become more acutely aware of this issue. Due to its rounded diaphragm blades, this 24-105 makes softer sunstars on brilliant points of light, and only at the smaller apertures.

This is primarily due to the lens’ high quality construction and engineering that afforded me the flexibility to shoot wide angle landscapes as well as close-ups, which made up over 90% of my shooting situations in both my hikes and travels. Even without RAW postprocessing in Adobe Lightroom, this photo of a beautiful sunset at Trinidad Beach was faithfully captured as I saw it This Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS is the world's best midrange zoom. It offers spectacular optical performance as well as first-rate mechanical construction at half the price of similar lenses, and it's smaller, lighter and has better ergonomics than the more expensive lenses. It is a superb lens at a reasonable price, a weather-resistant baby version of the huge 24-70mm f/2.8 GM. If I had to put a number of the percentage of time I felt the zoom on this lens was adequate (as opposed to inadequate), I’d say at least 90% of the time, this lens did the job.
