About this deal

Knowing the speed of the projectiles is useful for many things but mainly, in the subject that concerns us, to obtain ballistic information of the projectiles fired. The LMBR R2A Chronograph is a speedometer for measuring speed and energy of your airrifle. An absolute must have when you want to set up your airrifle for the best concistency. There are many functions in the LMBR chronograph that help us in our work to know what we have to do to reach our goals with a certain weapon or ammunition, the device calculates Averages, Deviations, Variances, etc. of a sampling, that is, a series of statistical data that helps us to know in depth the characteristics of a weapon and its ammunition by reading the effects provided by the chronograph. A well-used LMBR chronograph is a must-have for all shooting and hunting enthusiasts. Chronograph readings can be very useful in diagnosing faults, particularly when there are instances of inconsistent velocities causing inaccuracies down-range. I hope I’ve given a few good reasons for you to rush out and buy one, which of course, leads to the question of choice because the market is awash with models of various prices.I already have a couple of chronographs that I use regularly – a Skan, and an FX Radar, which are excellent and come highly recommended, although they both have one limitation. Both are difficult to use down-range, particularly if you don’t want to damage them. If recording terminal energy is your bag, like our own Gary Wain, then you need a chronograph, which with care can be used down-range. So, if this is you, and you also want a chronograph that can be used in the workshop, then the LMBR R2A could be your new best friend. FROM POLAND TO YORKSHIRE The constancy in the speed of the projectiles does not imply perfect precision, at all, but we can say that it is the first and fundamental step for a weapon to be accurate.

For example, a ‘chrony’ will determine the sweet spot on your PCP – the fill pressure range where your rifle is most consistent. It will also help you identify potential problems, and for you tinkerers out there, it will validate the effectiveness, or otherwise, of your labours. (Looking for a compressor for airguns – take a look at our list of the best options.) Shoot through the chronograph window with a distance from the muzzle (for airguns) of about 10/20 cm. and about 40/50 cm in the case of a 22 LR caliber firearm. or similar. The apparatus will give the projectile velocity and energy readings in joules directly. The other advantage with the R2A is that you can set it up so that it sits just in front of your muzzle, and depending on how high your scope is, you can shoot your targets and just look up at the display and see your velocity. This way, if you have a shot that hits high or low, you can see if there has been a power fluctuation at the muzzle. The R2A will remember a 250 string of pellets and there is no doubt that this chronograph will help you to be more consistent and so choose the best pellet for your rifle.

I HAVE THE POWER

Q: A lot of airgun shooters at my local club have their own chronograph, which they use when shooting from the bench. Is this an important accessory to have, and what are its uses?

The Caldwell Chronograph G2 is also designed for powder burners and even bow users, capable of measuring projectiles up to 9,000 feet per second. Presented in a carry bag, the G2 comes with its own tripod, which can be adjusted between 80 and 170mm high. Made in the USA, the ProChrono DLX Chronograph has a velocity range of 20 – 9,999 feet per second, memory capacity of up to 9 strings of up to 99 shots each, and a shot timing resolution of 31 nSec (8000 counts @ 4,000fps). Its crystal controlled accuracy is +/- .5% of measured velocity or better, making it a reliable and accurate tool for measuring the velocity of projectiles in various shooting sports.
