Axel Scheffler is the best-selling, award-winning illustrator of many of the world’s favourite picture books. Born in Hamburg, Axel moved to England over thirty years ago to study illustration. Read more Julia Donaldson was born in Hampstead, London and studied French and Drama at Bristol University. Whilst at university she would write songs and plays and perform them in the street with her friends. By 1971 she got a job at a publishing house whilst being an active part of Bristol Street theatre at the weekends, where the group would regularly perform in playgrounds in underprivileged housing estates.
