About this deal

This is the perfect book for folks who love Captain America from his recent movies, and want to see more of his time in World War II.

In 1940, Timely Comics publisher Martin Goodman responded to the growing popularity of superhero comics – particularly Superman at rival publisher National Comics Publications, the corporate predecessor to DC Comics – by hiring freelancer Joe Simon to create a new superhero for the company. So yeah: a fun adventure in the style of Golden Age Cap comics, with some unfortunate accents and some even more unfortunate coloring work. But, perhaps haunted by his own roots in powerlessness, he is a dissident just as likely to be feuding with his superiors in civilian and military governance as he is to be fighting with the supervillain Red Skull. Before his time at Marvel Studios, Adam worked on the sets of numerous film and television productions, ranging from low-budget independent films to studio films such as "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "Hancock" and the Coen Brothers' "A Serious Man," which was shot in his home state of Minnesota.Simon sought to have Jack Kirby be the primary artist on the series: the two developed a working relationship and friendship in the late 1930s after working together at Fox Feature Syndicate, and had previously developed characters for Timely together. Steve Rogers has worn other costumes when he has adopted alternate superhero alter egos: as Nomad he wears a domino mask and a black and gold suit that is cut to expose his bare chest and stomach, [111] and as The Captain he wears a modified version of the Captain America suit with a red, white, and black design.

This is a re-telling of Cap’s origin, starting with him deciding to enlist and ending some time before he ends up going on ice for years. Their run featured a year-long storyline in which Captain America faced a crisis of confidence in the face of what Dematteis described as " Reagan Cold War rhetoric". He is 'a man out of time,' a walking emblem of greatest-generation propaganda brought to life in this splintered postmodern time. Now, with his trusty shield at his side, Steve Rodgers fights for liberty and justice for all as Captain America, the First Avenger!

He eventually re-assumes the title, and later declines an offer from the "New Populist Party" to run for president himself. Simon and Kirby would go on to form one of the most productive partnerships of the early American comic book industry. The first issue of Captain America Comics sold out in a matter of days, and the second issue's print run was set at over one million copies. In the wake of the September 11 attacks, a new Captain America series written by John Ney Rieber with artwork by John Cassady was published under the Marvel Knights imprint from 2002 to 2003. The majority of this trade is a four-issue 1991 miniseries by Fabian Nicieza and a variety of artists, the best of whom is definitely Kevin Maguire, retelling Captain America's origin story and inventing a first adventure for him, the usual sort of face-off against the Red Skull.

However, Terry Austin's inking keeps everything looking relatively consistent, and overall, it's still a very worth tale of Captain America. In this fully updated re-issue of Essential Captain America Volume 1, Marvel's Sentinel of Liberty renews his mission and fights the good fight, facing off against Baron Zemo, the Red Skull, Power Man, the Swordsman, Batroc the Leaper and the Super-Adaptoid! For the remainder of his long life, he continued to serve as a creative figurehead at Marvel and an ambassador for the comics medium.Captain America's civilian identity is Steve Rogers, a frail man enhanced to the peak of human physical perfection by an experimental " super-soldier serum" after joining the United States Army to aid the country's efforts in World War II.
