About this deal

One of the most common uses of DVI-A is to connect a DVI monitor to a VGA monitor since they have the same type of signal. If you’re familiar with computers from the Windows 95 era, you’ll recognise the outputs and cables, with their 15 pins and miniature bolts to hold them in place. There are two separate 9-pin sets (rows of 6) for a single-link cable, whereas a 24-pin set (rows of 8) is a dual-link cable. In comparison DVI-A is an analog signal, you will not be able to use a DVI-D cable with any DVI-A equipment or vice versa duel to the signals incompatibility. With this format, you can have the best of both worlds, meaning this type of cable is capable of carrying both a digital-to-digital signal and an analog-to-analog signal.

Do you happen to have an older model of an HDTV that only has a DVI connection but you need to connect HDMI peripherals? DVI is a standard for transferring video signals from DVI-equipped source devices (like PCs and DVD players) to a video display that also has a DVI video input connection. If the POST process is failing and the computer is not starting up, the motherboard could be at fault. To promote interoperability between DVI-D and HDMI devices, HDMI source components and displays support DVI-D signalling. In many instances, you can simply use the same type of HDMI-to-DVI connection or cable adapter you would use to connect a device with a DVI interface to an HDMI TV. When working with this type of computer, you'll have two different connections for your monitor on the back of your computer. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) came out in 2002, just three years after the introduction of DVI, and the system was adopted widely by manufacturers of media players, computers, TVs, monitors and projectors.

An earlier attempt to promulgate an updated standard to the analog VGA connector was made by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) in 1994 and 1995, with the Enhanced Video Connector (EVC), which was intended to consolidate cables between the computer and monitor.Paul started the Home Cinema Guide to help less-experienced users get the most out of today's audio-visual technology.
