XX did everything this book did, but better - it had a stronger plot, more engrossing characters, and the graphical elements seemed to be more entwined with the story and events and none of that interfered with it's ability to pose questions about the real world. If you are looking for a story that answers the narrative's implicit and explicit questions - it is not. The focus on space seemed intended to meditate on the impact of architecture on people, and the relationship between spaces and minds (and, from there, between different minds which can only know each other through external contact).

There are references to things such as Tally Huts, which are routine in building sites, but not often written about outside of training manuals. The parts in the book where London goes bonkers after the electricity has given out made me feel sick as that could oh so easily happen.This fused with the artwork was a visual experience, I enjoyed both the discovery of the Anomaly and the Black Locomotive storylines and how they came together towards the end.
