About this deal

I adored my children… I wanted to make sure they felt loved and safe; something I had never had as a child,’ Marie says. Marie could not ring herself to tell anyone what had happened to her, or even when the home closed down. She isn't even allowed to keep her own name and the Convent is overseen by an utterly vicious and sadistic nun. The story follows Marie as she is brought to a convent by her family, as they can no longer afford to keep her at home, and tells about the way she is treated while in the convent. THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLERWhen a fancy car pulls up outside six-year-old Marie's home in Oldham, in 1959, she is told she is going on holiday.

No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. The sisters were placed into Newstead Children's Home, on Old Mill Lane, Wavertree, and into the care of Sister O'Brien who moved there following the closure of Greenfield House in the early 1960s. I cannot imagine what poor Marie went through and I felt so sad for her and the children in the convent.

The Roman Catholic Church confirmed they were aware of the complaint and have since apologised to Marie. Her parents didn't protect her and they didn't do what was necessary so that their children were placed in the convent. Strength and the hope only a child can have, fuel survival in spite of the darkness found in a room without a window. Marie, six, and her seven-year-old brother, Fred, were placed in Greenfield House when their parents, who had eight other children, were temporarily unable to look after them. But Marie suffered with anxiety and flashbacks, and eventually confided in Jack about the physical abuse at the convent – though she felt unable to tell him about the sexual abuse.

Following the publication of Marie's book, we asked the diocese for a comment, pointing out she wanted an apology from the Pope although she had forgiven her tormentor. The charity which set up the convent have launched an investigation and have publicly apologised to all the victims. Having read so many of these books it would be easy to pad out the story to make it into a full-sized book. I am furious and disgusted that so many children have suffered under the Catholic Church and it’s always covered up!It feels odd to say whether I enjoyed this book or not, given that it's about something so shocking. She remembered: 'One day, a little boy in the playground told me that he loved me and said: 'I'll always come to find you, even if you go to Africa. Truth about Neighbours star Troy Beckwith's death at age 48 as family announce there will be no funeral: 'He fought a tough battle.
