About this deal

The metal’s many technical properties are complemented by its sleek, extremely pleasing aesthetics, enabling a wide range of uses. While not really ground breaking in style I think it is a great modern dive watch that doesn't look like a sub imitation.

A “true GMT” complication is excellent for travel but not ideal if you’re looking to track your friends in other time zones with the GMT hand. With two time zones at a glance, this stunning timepiece opens up a world of voyages and nautical discoveries. If you’re a “function over everything” kind of person, then this Mido Ocean Star GMT is hard to dismiss. The Mido also has a fixed 0-24 scale on the shallow-sloped chapter ring, executed in black and blue to differentiate day and night. On the back of the sporty Swiss watch – fitted with the Caliber 80 automatic movement , which offers a power reserve of up to 80 hours – MIDO has engraved the time-zone indications. The dial has applied indexes, there’s a sapphire crystal with double-sided anti-reflective treatment over it, and around it, there’s a unidirectional diving bezel in steel and ceramic. This is why we love a great travel watch, because whether you’re home or abroad, they manage to capture the romance of travel without forgetting that sometimes you need a tool to manage time in more than one place. In addition to its screw-down case back, the Ocean Star GMT Black is built with a screw-down signed crown which allows for a water resistance of 200m. Not only is this done while preserving the home time indication (shown via a red 24-hour hand), but the precision of the timekeeping is not affected as the movement does not need to be halted to adjust the local hour hand.

Here at MONOCHROME, we tend to prefer the true GMT, as it’s designed to be a faithful companion for frequent travellers. the omega watch box arrived damaged, and the watch was never sent to an authenticator as advertised. Reddit and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to provide you with a better experience. Just as how the Europa Point Lighthouse has unfailingly watched over the Gibraltar Strait since 1841, guiding sailors on the often-rough waters between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, the Ocean Star GMT Black watches over you and is your perfect ally for all kinds of adventures. Being flat, the crystal does give quite a sterile view of the dial below, there is no distortion you might get from a dome, or edge issues seen with a box crystal.Forget the roaming fees, the sim card codes, and the battery concerns – you don’t even need to stop the seconds hand on a proper travel watch. Although the lume is very bright, it doesn't last through the entire night as do some of my other watches. We have full control over the design, materials, specifications, marketing and even dispatch so we can perfect every little detail and remain confident with our work. If you are familiar with the Ocean Star GMT, you will know the standard case size is 44mm, and when we approached this design, we knew we wanted to try something new. To correct the date of the Mido Ocean Star GMT, you have to move the local time hand forward with the crown in the second position, passing twice over 12.

Strong and shock-resistant, they are made to last, maintaining their exceptional transparency for many years. In 2022, we have already seen more than a dozen companies presenting new models with such functions. Whatever the mission, precision timing counts” In honour of British Watchmaker’s Day, taking place on 9th March in Westminster, London, Elliot Brown are celebrating their attendance with the creation of an extremely limited-edition twist on. It’s within that jet-set spirit that we collaborated with Mido to create the Ocean Star GMT Limited Edition For Hodinkee. There is also no corresponding 0-24 scale on the dial, the bezel is the only place to read the GMT hand against. It not only makes setting and reading the local time quicker, but the jumping 12-hour hand will also keep the date correct for the time zone you’re in. Many types of ceramics exist, each with their own unique properties suited to a variety of applications, from medicine to watchmaking. Right up to the point where you rub together your thumb and index finger before releasing the crown to set the watch. In business since 1919, Mido’s early history is associated with automotive-inspired designs, waterproof tech, and the automatic Multifort collection. On the back of the sporty Swiss watch - fitted with the Caliber 80 automatic movement , which offers a power reserve of up to 80 hours - MIDO has engraved the time-zone indications.

It is also true that some of the Seiko watches that have this setting method use the Kinetic family of movements and are very modest, so the snobbery is unjustified. If you’re not afraid of color and a little serving of “Pepsi”, the special edition in red and blue with an extra NATO strap in the same colors might be the one for you. We welcome all manufacturers including Casio G-Shock, OMEGA, Rolex, Breitling, Rolex and Tudor, Seiko, Grand Seiko and others. Hard to justify for me having that much money in two Ocean Stars so I bought the White Shark Save The Ocean Turtles instead since I didn't have a Seiko diver in the collection. I believe this may in part be due to the fact that I didn’t try one of the colourways review here, but instead the black/blue version. If you ever catch a glimpse into the heart of this dive watch, you would be amazed at the great amount of details put into the making of this movement, down to its oscillating weight decorated with Geneva stripes and Mido’s logo. The colour of its dial is further complemented with a black ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel which enables the tracking of elapsed time.
