There is some stuttering in games like SMB3 but I believe this could be fixed using a more optimized RetroArch setup in the future. The TRIMUI Smart is an interesting and unique micro retro game handheld from the same team that designed the TRIMUI Model S. It’s a neat and smart looking launcher that “just works” and will definitely find fans amongst the kind of people that just want to pick up and play.
On SNES, I ran into those same issues along with visual glitches that seemed to have to do with transparency and layering in the game. He focused his passion in retro gaming and began creating a game for the Game Boy Color while living in Nara, Japan during the 2020 pandemic. I didn’t try out PS1 or any of the various arcade and other weirder systems it claims to work with because, well… it's missing buttons for PS1 and those other systems are weird!
Since the Smart Brick is still in the concept phase, maybe that will be a detail altered for the final design. Simple to install, just extract the zip file as instructed and copy everything to your sdcard, overwriting whatever is needed.
One of my favourite arcade games is Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, and this also played very well on the SMART. This could be solved in the future with a firmware patch or possibly switching out RetroArch cores being used. It’s at the lower end of the performance scale, sitting somewhere around the JZ4760 (LDK, RG300 etc) and RG350 series (JZ4770). We'll have to see what the next OTA update looks like or if any community developers work on some custom options.
The Trimui Smart runs on what seems to be a modified version of Retroarch, so a lot of the emulation settings that you can play with will be very familiar to emulation veterans. It’s powered by the AllWinner F1C200S SoC, which is the same family of ARM9 based chips found in those other machines. There's no word if CFWs or custom options will make their way to the device for sure, but there are community developers looking at it. If you doubled the dimensions of a GBA image to 480×320, then each pixel of the original image could just become 4 pixels in the new version and it would effectively look the same.
The shoulder and function buttons do have a little rattle (movement) to them but not as bad you'd find on say most PowKiddy devices. Red Ventures has made a deal for Fandom to take over major assets such as Gamespot, TV Guide and Metacritic. The size of the TRIMUI SMART is around the size of a credit card and is neat enough to slip straight into your pocket. MinUI is a focused, custom launcher and libretro frontend for the RGB30, Trimui Smart, Miyoo Mini(s), and Anbernic RG35XX.The device has 8GB internal storage which I haven't been able to access yet and comes with a generic 32GB microSD card. Lightweight and Portable: The game console takes into account the perfect proportion of hand feel and size. A variety of color back shell and PCB board match each other, choose your most personalized combination. More power is the direction we should be headed, but with more power comes bigger handhelds and a higher cost. TRIMUI has recently released the TRIMUI Smart console, which is yet another micro console to hit the retro gaming scene.
To get a feel for how well the Trimui Smart can run, I tested out a variety of homebrew games for the NES, SNES, GB, GBC, and GBA. This level of hardware allows for decent SNES emulation with exceptions for games such as Yoshi’s Island in which I am only able to achieve 14 FPS. Probably a daft question, but if it had hardware shutdown it could be suitable for my youngest daughter.He is now in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where he spends most of his time gaming, going on long walks and meeting as many stray dogs as possible.
