About this deal

People had previously speculated that the person behind the account was a high-profile comedian or a real-life MP, but Morris is a personal trainer and ultra marathon runner from Yorkshire, who now lives in Wales. It took on a life of its own almost immediately, I remember people in the gym laughing about the account without knowing it was me, and it was very nice to have my hunch confirmed that I could make people laugh.”

the book still makes one think about the state of politics and wonder why the British electorate has let this lot run the country”Quite a funny book, you need to go into it understanding it’s nothing but a comedy so therefore it’s quite light hearted and silly.

A review that makes this left if centre green want to read the book – but there is a chance that the bias within the first part of the review might put some people off. But, to be honest, he's clearly an accomplished writer too. Fluidly written, substantial and including plenty of clever insight into just what's wrong with these people, I laughed, I cried... Satire is not supposed to be comfortable reading, and although this book is highly entertaining and made me laugh it does make one think too. It’s probably easier reading, and easier to laugh, if you are a left of centre reader but the book still makes one think about the state of politics and wonder why the British electorate has let this lot run the country. I look forward to the day when a Labour government at Westminster gets a similar treatment though that seems quite a while away. But there are many Conservative voters who might read this book and ponder where it all went wrong. Such an excoriating account would have been difficult to write even in the Cameron days, let alone the Major days. The satirical account, which is staunchly anti-Conservative, gained prominence when Brexit was dominating the headlines prior to the UK’s exit from the EU. Morris, 40, grew up in Yorkshire, his mother a teacher, his father an archaeologist. “My dad is very clever, he has a lot of varied interests, both my parents have, which they seem to have passed on to me.” His father persuaded him to play Fleance in Macbeth when he was 12 with Abbey Shakespeare Players, technically an am-dram company but more of a hyper-literary cult, which introduced him to St Dogmaels Abbey in Wales, where the company stages its annual performance. He now lives in a Welsh valley that, according to folklore, is the entrance to the underworld. “It’s paradise,” he says. The 2019 Conservative MPs are mean-spirited, largely stupid and, as far as I can tell, firing up the shredders before they get booted out at the next election The Diary of a Secret Tory MP: private dodgy dispatches from the heart of Westminster by Anon is published by Harper Collins.

Mr Morris started the account with the name “Mark ne Francois pas” and used it to parody Tory MP Mark Francois. It then became “Michael Govern Ready” before eventually transitioning to “The Secret Tory”. He had faith that if he could make people laugh it would be popular, but not to the extent that it reached. He said: ‘The problem with that was, if people come for you to be funny, and you’re being angry, it doesn’t work. Initially, he just enjoyed the popularity. “I’d read a few books on how to write sitcoms, and there were loads of caveats, such as: ‘If you’re that person who thinks you’re really funny in the pub, just be wary that you might not be that person who’s funny to everyone else.’ I just assumed I was that guy. But then I just made people laugh straight away.” Over the next year or so, though, the adage of master satirist Chris Morris started to weigh on him. “‘If the people you’re taking the piss out of are enjoying it, you’re not doing it right.’ I’d definitely been seduced by these high-status people laughing at it. After that, I started doing it properly, which is much more satisfying,” he says.

There is Centre in the UK that might need persuading, even if the awfulness of the last ten years ought to do that with ease.

Conspiracy theorists have found their new paradise on Elon Musk's 'X'

A modern day polymath, they enjoy bloodsports, destabilising liberal democracy and several non-executive directorships, including one at Southern Water where they claim to have been responsible for over three-hundred beach closures in 2022 alone. They currently holdthe Conservative Party conference 'WKD Blue Challenge' title, after decimating Ken Clarke's infamous seven bottle record which had stood for thirteen years. He told BBC News: “If people are feeling cheated I’m not a real MP, I’d like to say I’m sorry. But I’m not. It’s got a lot more to do with the behaviour of the people sitting in Westminster, than my skills as a con artist.”
