About this deal

This expresses a state of existence identical to that expressed in It was here before we came and in It had been here before we came, and just as there is no rule of grammar which prohibits its use, there is none which requires it. There can be context in conversation or literature which requires its use (or the use of the past perfect) to make meaning clear, but we have nothing here upon which to rely. Without context, this is an instance in which the perfect is just unnecessary. We would use have been when the sentence subject is I, you, we, or the third-person plural ( the children have been studying grammar all morning; they have been studying all morning).

The most compelling proof is the Mori survey on public attitudes to refugees carried out for Reader’s Digest in November 2000. This found that - after a year in which the Daily Mail had run more than 200 stories about asylum seekers and refugees - 80% of adults believed that refugees come to Britain because they regard it as a “soft touch”, 66% thought there are too many immigrants in Britain, and 63% considered too much is being done to help immigrants. These opinions mirror those of the tabloids.A number of others in similarly difficult positions have since come forward. Some, like McIntyre, have been made homeless by the Home Office’s refusal to accept that they have a right to be living here; others have opted to live a life beneath the radar, to avoid deportation; while others have struggled to get cancer treatment, amid questions over their eligibility for NHS care. High commissioners of Commonwealth countries are concerned about the number of elderly former Commonwealth citizens, who have been here since childhood, facing similar problems and have called on the UK government to show more compassion. When it was becoming clear that COVID-19 was a serious issue early last year, Nina Muirhead (pictured) had a strong suspicion about what would happen next.

The Society for the Protection of Science and Learning, meanwhile, tried to find academic posts for elite scientists and researchers. It isn’t fanciful to imagine current asylum seekers making similar contributions to those made by the Jewish prewar and postwar immigrants. Another example of medieval trans people comes from Icelandic culture. The Saga of King Heidrek the Wise includes the legendary tale of Hervard, who was named Hervor at birth but later changed his name to reflect his gender. As a child, he was encouraged to engage with feminised activities such as embroidery, but his skills with a sword and bow were much stronger. Yet simply demonising those who demonise asylum seekers doesn’t take us very far, and ignores the fact that the press never only foments prejudice - it also milks that which is already there. It has long been apparent that bigotry is seeded by the daily experience of want: unemployment, dilapidated estates and hard lives rarely breed an expansive embrace of foreigners. Migration raises real and profound issues. By refusing to engage with them for so long, liberal politicians and governments have left the field to the right, which has been able to mark the boundaries of the argument. It’s clear, then, that lesbian, gay, bi, and especially trans, identities are not a trend: our varied genders and sexualities have existed for as long as people have existed, in every culture, society, and country. And it’s encouraging to see that, even in the face of extreme homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, more and more of our histories are being uncovered and told. Nor does the estimate include close family members from non-EU countries, who are also eligible under this scheme. The total number of people who need to apply could perhaps be as high as 4 million.

"Being" as a Gerund

There were questions about eligibility to healthcare in a no-deal scenario, questions about how to apply for dual nationality and questions about how UK pensions would be uprated if they were paid in Germany. “I have no information whatsoever on how it will pan out. You don’t know what the British government will do,” the diplomat said sadly. More gold has been mined from the thoughts of men than has been taken from the earth. (Author Napoleon Hill) Toulmin dismisses the NUJ argument as “an old chestnut, affecting every group and not just asylum seekers. It’s a problem that has been looked at so many times, and no consultant, editor or journalist has ever found a way of phrasing a new clause that would raise standards without stifling comment and allowing groups like the BNP to use them for their own ends.” At the Home Office building in Liverpool, where many of the 1,500 people employed to process the applications are based, there is a relentlessly positive atmosphere. Everyone here is aware of the damage done to the Home Office’s reputation by Windrush. In recent years, the Home Office has been condemned by politicians for being steeped in a “culture of disbelief”, where staff are expected to probe for tiny inconsistencies in the accounts of refugees, and where officials are instructed to “deport first, hear appeals later”. What’s more, those that were granted entry were admitted only because the Jewish community guaranteed that it would bear all the expenses of accommodation and maintenance, with no burden placed on the public purse. Elsewhere, Canada accommodated only 5,000 European Jews between 1933 and 1945, Australia 10,000, South Africa some 6,000. And the US’s unyielding quota system meant that, between 1933 and 1937, only 33,000 German Jews were admitted (and only 124,000 between 1938 and 1941).

However, after her arrest, officials discovered that Eleanor was in fact assigned male at birth. Not only this, but she stated that she had sex with both men and women: seemingly, Eleanor Rykener was what I’d describe as a queer trans woman in medieval England. They keep saying that I am not on their system – but of course I can’t be on their system because when I came here in 1963 there were no computers,” she says, enraged by the catch-22. “My mother died in 2016. I couldn’t travel to see her, or take part in her funeral. It really hurt me. It is the unfairness and injustice of it that upsets me more than anything.” My mother died in 2016. I couldn’t travel to see her. It really hurt. The injustice upsets me more than anything He has seen older people who have been here for decades crying in meetings, worried they are going to be put on a plane out of the country. “Even when you tell them, ‘I am confident that if you fill in this form, you will be fine, you will get settled status’, the anxiety and the stress and everything that is happening around them prevents them from hearing that message.” The verb phrases have been, has been, and had been all have closely related meanings. That similarity may at times lead to confusion about the right time to use each construction. I was no longer teased for being ‘other’ because we were all different in our own ways. Looking different and sounding different and being different were no longer impediments to walking down the hallway or eating lunch in the cafeteria in peace”, Samra Habib writes. Samra Habib does good to accentuate yet another exclusionary space- the academia, which is inclusive in the sense of understanding queer struggles, when it comes to theorizations and discussions but the very academic language creates emotional barriers- a language that is “inaccessible to those who need to be comforted most”.

Been or being? This flow diagram will get you the right answer. The Words "Been" and "Being" Are Participles If the sentence subject is a third-person singular noun ( he, she, it, Courtney), we would use the phrase has been.People need a different approach to activity and energy management along the lines of what we’ve been promoting for years, which is basically pacing and just trying to live within your energy envelope.’ Been" is always used in conjunction with the verb "to have," which is its auxiliary verb. The auxiliary verb for "being," on the other hand, is the verb "to be" (e.g., "is," "are," "was"). For example:
