About this deal

English Dolby Atmos, French-Parisian, German, Italian, Portuguese-Brazilian, Russian, Spanish-Castilian, Spanish-Latin American Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround, Japanese TV Tokyo Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo Surround, Japanese Fuiji TV Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono The original Top Gun got a pretty nice upconversion here, I feel. Film grain is kept to a fair minimum, it's definitely sharper than I remember from the Blu-Ray cut, and it's brighter than before. Overall, worth the extra money for the 4k. The 4K Ultra HD collection also offers a wealth of bonus features, including behind-the-scenes documentaries, interviews with the cast and crew, and additional content that delves deeper into the making of the films. These extras provide valuable insights into the production process and offer fans a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship and dedication that went into creating the Top Gun universe. Había visto muchas reseñas en esta misma página dándole las mejores opiniones a la segunda película.

Beautiful steelbook! Lovely glossy colours and really well chosen pictures to use. The film moments chosen are just a few of the shots that made the audience gasp in the cinema, as you can fully see Mr Cruise is once again, DOING the flying for REAL! The film itself is brilliant and I honestly thought “how can it live up to all the hype?!” Trust me, it does! There’s a reason it’s now amoung the ranks of highest grossing movies ever, it brought a lot of joy to people during the pandemic and especially those 80s kids like me who grew up loving the original! Even if not a big fan of the first movie, I’d put money on the fact you’ll enjoy this one more. Fantastic looking steelbook which looks even better next to the first ones equally beautiful 4K steelbook! I actually prefer the colours used on the Zavvi exclusive over other releases. Grab one if you get the chance! Pricing for the 4K SteelBook Superfan Collection has not been confirmed yet, but considering the humongous amount of features and memorabilia included in the set, one can surmise it’ll be quite a chunk of change. Note that if you redeem the Digital code, you also get access to an additional feature via desktop and mobile devices (depending on the Digital service): Take the above comparison screengrabs for example but with a huge grain of salt: the top from the 4K Ultra HD disc and the bottom from the 30th Anniversary Blu-ray Edition. Although both pictures were taken directly from the discs on a professionally calibrated system, seeing the images at their full HDR/WCG potential will depend on the capabilities of each viewer's screen. Nevertheless, the two images allow for just enough visible information to reflect the experience at home and be able to note the difference in contrast and the improvement in the overall color palette and timing.

The new one looks great, naturally. It was filmed in the modern digital era, so a 4k release was always on the table. I never saw it in the theaters, so I can't say if this was the original way of things... but all the fighter plan sequences are in 16:9 and the rest of the film is in 2.35:1. I found this somewhat distracting, and I really don't know exactly why they made this choice. The aspect ratios vary between 2.39:1 and 1.90:1. It seems most of the land-based and non-action scenes are presented in the wider 2.39:1 format, while the airborne scenes all come closer to square IMAX format at 1.90:1. The taller format allows a bigger image that makes the scenes more immersive and closer to the action for the viewer. The audio is immersive and dynamic even with a pair of good headphones and a decent bass threshold. We tested on a pair of Apple AirPods Max, Bose, and Sony studio monitors and all sounded great. Of course, you don’t get that full spatial effect that happens in a controlled area with multiple speakers in surround sound positions. Finally, it must be said that these are the best scenes of flying ever captured on film. The tour de force climax of the movie leaves viewers emotionally exhausted with giant grins and cheering for more. It ranks up there with the best action sequences in all of film. The original Top Gun is not as fantastic of a movie on a narrative level, but it was impressive for its time and remains an enjoyable movie for first-time viewers, with attractive visuals, awesome sound design, and great character moments.

Forging the Darkstar– A look at the aircraft from the movie, what went into it and filming at China Lake. A much shorter version of this was featured on The Late Late Show with James Corden. It’s certainly entertaining, so while it doesn’t make or break these extras, it’s nice to have. But an audio commentary is something this film really deserves, and one would hope that a future release might include it. Forging the Darkstar (HD, 8 min) takes a closer look at the scramjet prototype seen at the beginning of the film and how it plays a role in the story.

Much of the character-driven drama takes priority with precise, clear dialogue that remains that way above the commotion, allowing audiences to enjoy every emotional moment and hear every inflection in each of the performances. Impressively, those quieter, dialogue-heavy sequences are nonetheless layered with the commotion of people chattering all around in Penny's bar, or the busy commotion of military activity can be heard in the distance and from above while at school. Other such scenes taking place indoors even have a natural light echoing effect from the characters talking to each other. Imaging continuously feels broad and spacious with an exceptional sense of presence, as an assortment of noises fluidly travels between the three channels and into the front heights, creating a highly-engaging half-dome wall of sound that's sustained to the very end. At the same, an outstanding mid-range exhibits superb detailing and distinction in the upper frequencies during the loudest segments while the score delivers striking definition in the orchestration with warmth and amazing fidelity while bleeding all around. Video: How’s it look? Audio: How’s it sound? Supplements: What are the extras? The Bottom Line Plot: What’s it about? As with previous lossless mixes, much of the design is a front-heavy presentation, but rear activity comes alive during the dogfights, expanding the soundfield with the noise of F-14s screaming in the surrounds and echoing through the overheads. There are a couple moments when the jetplanes distinctly fly above the listening area and into view, but ultimately, the top heights do a majority of the leg work in widening and heightening the action. The real winner, in the end, are the memorable songs, filling not only the entire soundscape but also subtly bleeding into the sides and overheads for a satisfyingly good time. (Dolby Atmos Audio Rating: 80/100) Masterclass with Tom Cruise– Cruise and selected cast members discuss the project as well as Cruise’s filmography.

English Dolby Atmos, French - Canadian, French - Parisian, Portuguese - Brazilian, Spanish - Castilian, Spanish - Latin American Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround P.S. – The iconic beach volleyball scene has been supplanted by a beach football scene. Sorry for the spoiler. Video: How’s it look? A Love Letter to Aviation– A love letter from Tom Cruise and his personal love for the work and dedication as to what made this what it is. If you are a Superfan, like me, this Collectible box is more than worth the expense; but it is a significant expense. Unlike 'Monthly Mystery Boxes' where the contents are always supposed to be theoretically more than the cost of the box, the same can't be said for Blu-ray Collector's Editions and this is no exception. The 80s action classic lands on Ultra HD with a pair of new supplements while the rest of the bonus features ported over from previous releases are on the accompanying Blu-ray disc.
