About this deal

Blog – I’ve been writing my blog since 2008 so if you dig deep you’ll find lots of posts about how I became a writer, amongst many other topics. When their father dies unexpectedly, siblings Max, Ellie and Nathan can’t even contemplate emptying his house—not least because he spent his last decade curating what feels like a museum to his polished public image. So it is Max’s wife, Caroline, who finds the suitcase under a bed…A suitcase stuffed full of an awful lot of cash.

You know that a writer has done a great job when you react to the characters. And, boy, did I have strong feelings about all of them here! James’s arrogance, in particular, was beyond the pale, and while I admired Caroline’s integrity, her behavior as a partner and not a sibling at times verged on the insane. Each family member has their own option on what they should do with the money ! Max and Caroline , Ellie and her husband James and youngest son Nathan have always been close that’s until the cash discovery which threatens to tear the family apart. When three members of a family come into a substantial amount of cash on the death of their father, the decisions they must make test their bonds, their marriages (in two cases), their friendships and their memories of how life has affected them in the past as they each seek to get the future right. Should they be honest and pass it over to the police for investigation? Declare it as part of his estate, risking losing a huge chunk to inheritance tax, or divvy it up between the three? There's an often misquoted saying about money being the root of all evil...in fact, found in the New Testament (1 Timothy 6:10) it is the love of money that is the root of all evil. Love is the word that gets left out yet love is the key to the problem.

Publication Order of Postcards Books

Ellie, the middle sibling starts off thinking the same, but her husband Jamie discloses information that makes them want the money more.

As a follower of this author I agreed to read a pre-publication copy in exchange for an honest review. She will begin with a question, like with “Postcards” this question was what sort of woman would up and leave her kids? From there she comes up with her characters and will dump them into the middle of a crisis and see what happens. Imogen Clark pens thoughtful contemporary women’s fiction all about the secrets which hide at the heart of the fictional families she creates. What happens when you drop a bag of cash right in the middle of three siblings and their families? A whole lot of good fun and drama. An Unwanted Inheritance delightfully explores the flaws that come with being human as Clark plunges us into a story about what is right and wrong and what it means to be a family. She ratchets up the tension as the story races to its surprising and oh, so satisfying conclusion.” — Boo Walker, bestselling author of The Singing Trees For 4 years running, we have been awarded ‘Best UK Probate Research Firm’ since 2019 at the UK Probate Research Awards, and have won the same award at the British Wills and Probate Awards in 2020. The story explores the siblings’ reasons for wanting the money, looking into their relationships with each other and their father.

What would you do if you found a large amount of money in a suitcase under the bed of a deceased relative ? That’s the dilemma facing siblings Max, Ellie and Nathan. Postcards from a Stranger” is the first novel in the “Postcards” series and was released in the year 2017. A secret lies buried at the center of her family, however it cannot remain hidden forever. What Clark does well is to describe and develop the characters, and the hidden dislike and resentment between them. There is one chapter in this book where I was so immersed in the story that I was actually shouting “NOOOOO” and my heart was hammering! The road to the solution was a roller coaster ride with many twists and turns and at times the problem seemed unsolvable. Imogen Clark has written a story about honesty and integrity and conflict and shows how these qualities can mean different things to different people depending on circumstances and when circumstances change so do their opinions - sometimes. It also shows the damage sudden wealth, or the prospect of it, can do to relationships. The basis of the book is based around the discovery a suitcase full of cash under the bed of 3 recently deceased father -The story gradually unfolds to explore all that comes along with what money can do to people and how it can affect families and relationships
