When it comes to my bartending skills, I learned from the best! The bar was my domain, and I do miss it from time to time! Glaze with the beaten egg, sprinkle with demerara sugar (optional), make a small cut in the tops and bake for 10 minutes then turn the oven temperature down to 180C/ 350F/ GM 4 and bake for another 10 minutes

What I used to make the Advocaat Hot Chocolate:

Christmas morning always starts with everyone squeezing into my bed, yes all six of us, so that’s four adults now, and they open the goodies that have been left for them by Father Christmas. This is my favourite part of Christmas, I love it…all the hard work and stress melts at this point. Up next is the Garland made using Warninks, amontillado sherry, spiced rum, topped with ginger ale, and garnished with candied ginger. Advocaat, along with notes of raisin and nut from the rum and the sherry, creates a Christmas pudding flavour with added ginger ale for that underlying spice – it’s Christmas cake in a glass. Snowballs are best made fresh - since there are so few ingredients anyway, it's no hardship to mix them up individually. You can serve them over ice if you want to, or just use fridge-cold lemonade.

I have to admit I wasn’t quite brave enough to wear it myself, as I look horribly pale and ill in yellow at the best of times, but my gorgeous daughter was on hand, keen to assist me in making some Snowballs.I thought she might carry it off with a certain amount of style, and she did!My favourite new festive tradition is that every year, at the end of November, we go to a pottery painting café as a family. We paint some gifts for grandparents and we also paint one, very special dish.
