With few exceptions, most electric toothbrushes will do a brilliant job of cleaning the teeth, if used correctly. The Series 7 comes with a magnetic charger that recharges the battery in 3 hours, compared to the standard Oral-B charger supplied with the Series 6 which takes up to 12 hours. The 3, 4, 5 and 6 all come with a standard Oral-B charger. White in color, it has a protuberance on the top that fits into the base of the brush handle. As we mentioned before, the brush heads are expensive, so operating the iO for a year will cost you about 40 pounds. It is recommended that you replace your brush head every 3 months. However, the “revolutionary” new drive system did not impress us much. To be honest, it feels quite a bit like the older Oral-B brushes, but it is a bit quieter and the motion is not as jittery. Ultimately, the cleaning experience is okay, but the motion can be a bit harsh for people with sensitive teeth and gums. One of our testers found it less comfortable than other Oral-B models and found himself forced to use the sensitive mode because it was too harsh.

After you go through the modes, you come to a “Settings” option. You select the option by pushing the power button. Here you can enable or disable Bluetooth, change the color of the LED light ring, change the language (with 12 available languages!), or perform a Factory Reset. INTERACTIVE DISPLAY signals vital information: including brushing modes and head replacement reminder, greets you as you power up & gives you a smile for a job well doneThe iO touts that it comes with a screen on the handle. However, unlike the Oclean X Pro, this is not a touch screen. It is a monochrome screen and you use the buttons to move through the menu. All in all, the two buttons are well-placed and quite comfortable, but we wish the screen were more useful. It is mostly for changing modes, and there are also some settings you can manage with it. One really nice thing about the iO design is that you can change modes on the fly while brushing with a push of the second button. This is great, I don’t know why brushes usually take so long to charge. But, few of us need such rapid charging. I would have preferred more usage time so there is less anxiety about remaining brushing sessions. On average, they operate at 10 decibels (dB) less. The iO4 registers a maximum of 64dB. But, on the sensitive mode, it was a couple of dB quieter still.

You still get a satisfying deep clean of the teeth and gums, but the feeling as the head moves over the teeth isn’t as intense. It’s like the dial for invigorating brushing has been turned down from 10 to 7. The slight harshness that has existed now doesn’t. The iO6-10 does allow the color to be changed via the in-handle display. But, you have fewer color choices than if you navigate to the app. There is some variance in the colors available For me, the fancy charging stand isn’t too big a factor. If bathroom visuals are important to you, maybe the magnetic stand is worth paying for. Otherwise, you can get by just fine with the cheaper stand. The newly designed motor in the iO Series handles does change the brushing sensation, even if the way in which the bristles move is essentially the same. All iO models have a reminder system built into the app and the brush handle. How this reminder is displayed differs.The iO9 has a power adapter hardwired into the charging stand and a separate, detachable, adapter for the power2go case. The iO10 has just 1 detachable adapter for both the charging stand and power2go case. Each of the modes use different amounts of power from the motor. This impacts the angle of oscillation at the bristle tips to create brushing patterns and effects that are different from one another. Those with displays show a battery icon and a percentage of the remaining charge after each brushing session. It certainly makes the iO7 stand out from the crowd, but in all reality what you can do on the screen is really quite limited.
