About this deal

Experience complete immersion in virtual worlds with the Platinum Wireless Headset and PS VR, compatible via the supplied audio cable. Listen to music or movies from your Windows PC or Mac, using the supplied wireless audio adaptor. Plug in to your mobile device with the supplied 3.5mm audio cable. The free Headset Companion App on the PS4 lets you load a variety of preset and custom EQ modes to the headset wirelessly. The app offers a choice between a handful of different game, movie, and music genres with their own tweaked EQ settings, plus a few modes designed for specific games like The Last Guardian and Uncharted 4 . You can also create three different custom EQ settings with a three-stage (Bass, Mid-range, Treble), six-step equalizer. The headset can only hold two EQ presets at a time, assigned to the 1 and 2 positions on the power switch. Fortunately, it only takes seconds to load new presets onto it. Our best headsets guides are updated as regularly as possible since new products are always coming onto the market, and we endeavor to deliver an honest recommendation on which are worth considering which is why we believe it's important to keep up to date with what products are relevant. That point changes slightly when you’re playing a game that uses 3D surround sound instead of simulated 7.1 –again, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is the only one that offers it at the moment – and sound effects do have a better presence thanks to 3D Audio’s ability to create “100 virtual speakers”.

Sony PlayStation Platinum Wireless Headset review - What Hi-Fi?

Astro's reputation for gaming headsets has been the envy of other manufacturers for the better part of a decade now. Like all previous versions of the A50, this refreshed model is about as expensive as the market gets, but it's also right at the high-tide line for quality. If you've got a larger budget when looking for a headset and you want something built to last, then the Astro A50 offers a premium build alongside its top-tier audio qualities. Sony doesn’t quote a target number for the headset’s battery life, but if we had to do an estimate based on the time we’ve used it, it’s probably around the 12- to 14-hour mark. We were able to play on and off for an eight-hour period, and we barely dove past the two-thirds mark according to the PS4. With the PS4 now just about a decade old (no, we can't believe it either), options for its best headsets are a dime a dozen. There are some exceptions of course, but we are seeing the heavy hitters in the industry retail these older models in the wake of the PS5 console entering its third year of market availability. We should stress that if you're after what's current-gen, then the best PS5 headsets are going to be more your speed. I see here it says they will work. Someone replied that the Gold and Platinum headsets will only work on PS5, but only while playing PS4 games. I can't find any source for that statement anywhere, so I'm thinking that's some kind of guess presented as a fact.

AP_0001 I’m not sure about PS5 but on the PS4, you can plug the headphones into the controller. I found it easier to actually connect my headphones wirelessly to my TV though, as I prefer not having a wire dangling. They're definitely the most comfortable headphones I've ever had myself (never spend more than 200 on such a thing). Still don't really like having them on for too long. Obviously one of the the headset’s major selling points is its ability to go wireless but, should you decide to run it into a mobile device or your PlayStation VR, Sony includes a standard 3.5mm-to-3.5mm audio cable inside every box.

Considering the 3D Pulse, Gold, and Platinum headsets all use the same tech (presumably) and the same connection interface (I think I read somewhere it still uses the USB dongle?) there is absolutely NO reason the Gold and Platinum would not work for PS5, including while playing PS5 games with 3D Audio. Gain a competitive edge, by pinpointing every move your enemy makes and become deeply immersed in multi-layered soundscapes, whether you’re engaged in multiplayer combat or engrossed in a single player adventure. Like all models in this illustrious family, the response is flatter and more like a set of studio cans than other gaming models. That means a less pronounced bass response, so drum and bass devotees may perhaps want to look elsewhere. Everyone else is treated to a rich soundscape that's perfect for gaming, but it's not so tightly tuned that it can't work for music or movies, too. They honestly look like a slightly less capable version of the Sony headphones I use, similar button layout. The 3D audio on mine blew me away when I listened to live music. If they’re anywhere close to the quality of my headphones for that price point then they’re a bargain.

Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands) may take longer to reach you. You want something built to last. Although it's a more affordable headset, this is reflected through its build. The construction feels cheap, so it's a case of getting what you pay for. A true PlayStation veteran, Sammy's covered the world of PS gaming for years, with an enormous Trophy count to prove it. He also likes tennis games way more than you.

PlayStation Platinum Wireless Headset review | TechRadar

Playing through Drake’s latest adventure with the Platinum headphones on gave the cinematic video experience a matching aural one similar what you’d find at a movie theater. Obviously it wasn’t as immersive as using a traditional 7.1 speaker setup, but the Platinum Headset did help us realize the level of detail the development team at Naughty Dog put into the game.

Have the platinum headset which I would assume is better than the new pulse or the same but they have brought the costs down.

Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5. Much like the 'Gold' Wireless Headset 2.0, being a first party product also gives the Platinum headset several benefits. For one, HUD icons for battery status, microphone mute, and the surround sound mode in use are all integrated into the PS4 front-end (displaying next to the controller battery icon). It's a luxury third parties can't tap into, where most rely instead on LED flashes on the headset to gauge battery life. It gives it an edge, and likewise for the simplicity of setup - a wireless USB dongle is all you need, rather than routing to an external processing unit via an optical cable.First things first, though: Sony’s commitment to style and design really shines through in the Platinum headset. Aside from the rather annoying diamond-shaped USB dongle taking up another precious USB slot on the front of your PS4, the Platinum headset is exceptionally well designed. You appreciate sleek design. Both the headset and itself boast sleek designs to help save space on your setup while looking the part. There’s a lovely balance of directness and spaciousness to the sound, so central effects and dialogue are delivered with plenty of intensity but exist in a three-dimensional soundscape that lends plenty of atmosphere to the action. Specifications are somewhat thin on the ground for the Platinum Wireless Headset, with Sony not even revealing standard frequency response - as things stand this is all we're given. The battery is apparently rated for 11 hours at medium volume - in our tests, we went for high volume and logged eight hours in total.
