About this deal

Ability to allocate the Aux SP to different tuners in Dual Tuner mode for the RSPduo and for additional VRXs

being used in the ATS-909X2 on the LW / MW or SW bands ( whew !). So that nasty is not to be found. However It also features a line in recording and radio recording capabilities. You choose the recording quality. There are three options to select from. You can go for 64 kbps or 96 kbps or 128 kbps.list (perhaps 5 kHz tops ??). But why not at least provide the 6 kHz on SW (or better yet 8 kHz) ? This is a real mystery to These are top-of-the-line shortwave radios. They were invented long after compared to other radio types you read above. To operate, they need a computer. Using the software on your computer, they can receive all radio frequencies. To be fair, the information in the manual is in perfect English and is clear and concise, exactly what someone with some experience with radios will want. I personally loved it, but I can see where people with less experience might have some questions about the Sangean ATS-909X2 that the manual just can not answer. For example, the ATS-909X2 comes with a much larger LCD screen that is also in color, and capable of displaying all kinds of information including RDS station data on FM. It also has 1,674 station presets, with the ability to program in station names for each that appear on the radio’s display. Nice update, I have a few thoughts on this new receiver, its a massive upgrade over the original 909, and the 909X, neither of which were really capable of ecss reception, which is very important to myself. I would also remind everyone that the softer volumes in ssb has existed in every 909 iteration ever released, I found my sample 909X2 to be much improved in this regard over the other two, though still obviously exhibiting reduced volume in ssb.

Early production 909X wall wart power adapters are AC/AC center pin negative. Late 909X and 909X2 adapters are AC/DC center pin positive and feature in-line RF chokes. Both of my 909Xs contributed more RFI to shortwave reception when operated with AC power than the new 909X2. The upshot was that when I listened to shortwave at the desk with a 909X I would run it off batteries even if a wall outlet was handy for running AC power, much like any other multiband portable with shortwave. The 909X2 on AC power is so quiet that I usually have it on AC power when I have it at the desk. I can hear a little hum when using 909X2 under AC power when an external antenna and headphones (Sennheiser HD 280 Pro) are in use. I don’t hear this hum at all when using 909X2 speaker audio probably owing to the better bass response of my ‘phones. 909X2 will not initiate battery charging after every use. It charges only when needed. I now disconnect the 909X2 from AC power only when listening to shortwave with headphones or when using it as a cordless portable. If you are trying to be exacting for whatever reason, then the Sangean ATS-909X2 may not be the radio for you. I personally don’t understand that logic as radio reception frequencies can vary considerably depending on distance and how the signal propagates so why the big freak-out if the radio isn’t exact? For me, it is close enough. I mean if the spotter says there is a 40m signal coming from Japan on 7.076mhz and I get there and that isn’t where the signal is, two seconds worth of tuning up and down will get me on it. Big whoop.Tuning to a frequency with the Sangean ATS-909X2 is simple using a variety of methods including directly inputting the frequency using the F key and then number keys, or using the tuning knob, and/or using the band keys (the number keys used in conjunction with the band key). I really liked being able to directly enter a starting frequency using the number keys and then using the Sangean ATS-909X2’s tuning dial on the front to get where I wanted to go. The increasing number of features is what makes choosing shortwave radios so complex. Take your time first to figure out what you need, and then opt for a shortwave radio covering all or most of your needs. It has a hand crank, a solar panel, and a built-in rechargeable battery. You can use the hand crank for recharging it. You will also get the option of recharging the battery using an AC adapter or a USB power source. I’ve just started setting up the ‘909X2: inputting local time, setting DST, changing the format to 24 hours, and learning my way around manual and direct-entry tuning.

For internal Li-ion batteries, you can expect a runtime of up to 30 hours on a single charge. Such internal batteries have a capacity of 1000 mAh to 4000 mAh. the Russian Malahit / Malachite SDR operational current consumption approx. 300ma (as indicated in the The 909X2 has been incredible fun. I have enjoyed using the auto bandwidth feature on shortwave and MW. There are instances where this feature is very useful particularly when it is difficult to copy words from a challenging signal. Use this feature in conjunction with the audio tone control for best results. Featuring wide-band AM/FM coverage from long wave and medium wave to short wave. The DSP comes as standard (Digital Signal Processing) with the unit and includes several features which can significantly enhance reception through improved interference rejection.I provided a demonstration of 909X2 auto bandwidth control (ABC) on this video of RNZI recorded at a distance of 6,600 miles. This recording was posted on YouTube two weeks ago. I switched on ABC at about 2:18 into the video, during a music selection. The effect of ABC on a fading signal can be disconcerting with music but a useful tool with speech. In addition to the action of AGC on the signal you have rapidly switching bandwidths constantly changing audio response as the radio seeks the bandwidth with the best S/N ratio. These processes seem to work together most effectively with speech rather than music. In this recording I am using the audio setting at NORM, which usually provides the brightest audio on shortwave and MW. More often than not I find that the NEWS audio setting sounds best when using ABC on rapidly and deeply fading spoken word. The NEWS audio setting is tailored for the voice range found in conversational speech.

The sound quality matters too! Settle for speakers with good impedance (Ohms), which should be between 4 and 10 for any standard speaker with a diameter of 40mm. In general, an external antenna will always produce clearer sound quality by enhancing the radio signals. So, I will advise that you go for SWL Antennas. SWL stands for Shortwave Listeners.Honestly, internal rechargeable batteries are better-suited for emergency radios. In emergency radios, such batteries work as power banks and help recharge phones and other smaller devices using a USB port.
