About this deal

Original Oral-B heads have bristles that fade in colour as time passes giving you a guide when it is time to swap. Another slight difference is the 9000’s lovely travel case has a clip built into the lid that holds a smartphone, for using the app when travelling. Both brushes will track your cleaning performance and log it in the app whilst providing real time feedback, but the Genius 9000 can go one stage further. The handle also features a really handy pressure sensor which detects when you are brushing too hard and stops the pulsations to help protect your gums. However, what is great about an electric toothbrush over a manual brush is the increased consistency in cleaning motion that it can offer and this is why you will often see toothbrush manufacturers claiming up to 100% more plaque removal.

Both models offer most of the benefits of an electric toothbrush without having to pay ‘too’ much for them. Whilst it does differ from one brush to another, to some extent I and the team here disagree about the importance. There is a bit more context that can be added around these differences to better understand why the two models exist and how one might be better suited to you, so please find the more detailed explanation of this below. The Smart 6 comes with1 x CrossAction, 1 x Pro White/3D White and 1 x Sensitive brush head, but the Genius 9000 comes with one additional brush head, that is the FlossAction head. Robert Dyas Holdings Limited T/A Robert Dyas is an appointed representative of Product Partnerships Limited which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 626349).Interestingly, despite the similar design, the Smart 6 is actually part of a range of brushes that includes the Smart 4 and 5 that sit below the Genius range.

On the rear of the handle rather than raised plastic ridges, the 3000 has a more subtle dimpled surface.I’m solely interested in power pulsation and oscillations and have no interest in the smart features. Perhaps, they are operating by the thought process that by offering lots of choice we will at least pick one, rather than none at all? These figures were correct at the time of writing and should not be relied upon as hard fact, but used as a guide during your decision process. Its clever, but requires dedication and commitment that many are not prepared to give, particularly due to the setup. By all means, continue reading to learn what differs between these models, but I would encourage you to seriously consider the Oral-B Pro 2 2500.

Different brush heads may have some small benefits and improvements for different users, but there is no difference between the actual brush handles and the clean they deliver. Having done a bit of comparison using other information online, as far as I can tell, it is identical to the Pro 650. And add to this, there have been various iterations of the 5000 over the years, so it would be important to find out the exact one to say 100%. In writing this comparison I almost feel that I am cheating you into believing there is more between these two brushes than there really is, but the fact of the matter is that the 3 bullet points above summarise the key differences between these two brushes. It is important to try and protect the brush head a little from damage as these are what do the cleaning and damaged bristles can actually cause more damage than you think. Spending more or picking a premium model does not necessarily result in a better clean of the teeth. The Genius 9000 is a premium electric toothbrush from Oral-B, but actually, we think that for some the Smart 5 might be the better all round purchase. With the professional timer Oral-B Pro 570 is a great toothbrush for everyone who wants to switch to an electric toothbrush. A smaller and final difference between the two models is the colour of the brush handles, or more precisely the rubber grip that runs down the front of it.

Please remember that products suitable for vegans may not necessarily be suitable for people with food allergies, as advised by The Vegan Society. The great number of choices you have within the Oral-B range can make it really quite difficult to decide which toothbrush is right for you. If a travel case or tube of toothpaste is desired then it might be worth the extra spend, but for most the 600 is the better value option. Over time you will learn how much pressure you need to apply and it will essentially become redundant for most within a few month’s.The good news however is that these brushes accept a range of different brush heads that are engineered to achieve different things or may suit your preferences better. It removes up to 100% more plaque than a standard manual toothbrush for healthier gums and it starts making your smile whiter as of the first day of brushing by removing surface stains.
