About this deal

I’m considering the Asus RT-AX86U and the Netgear RAX50. Do you have any thoughts are on what I can expect from either of those (or if you recommend something completely different)? Latest Beta: a55bf8eef66a83ead245a478e0abdf3ac9fb81b482058c0d1dd9b1a9f4e77b2a RT-AC3100_386.12_beta1.trx I’m leaning hard towards Option C – seems I’ll be able to plug the laptop in and also improve WiFi access to that part of my house. I know there are other AiMesh routers too, but they seem as expensive as option B. On our 5GHz close proximity test, the RT-AX86U garnered an impressive score of 831Mbps, which was identical to the AX11000’s score and 49Mbps faster than the RT-AX88U. The MR9600 led with a score of 840Mbps. At a distance of 30 feet the RT-AX86U (237Mbps) edged the MR9600 (228Mbps) but could not keep pace with the AX11000 (328Mbps) or the RT-AX88U (318Mbps).

Don’t have problem with the speed or ethernet, but wifi signal can fluctuate a lot (tried setting manual channel or auto), but doesn’t seem to help.f76a5fd3a3d1d58f86a52623620e82f0f700a1f1c58c67b71fbba792189e572d GT-AXE16000_3004_388.4_0_nand_squashfs.pkgtb And even those on this short list don't have everything. But selectively, they are the best in their grade. I use the broadband connection as the main criterium, except for the case of the TP-Link Archer AX10, whose main strong point is affordability. Any routers you find here will likely work out well -- it's a matter of degrees depending on your situation. Situation: Everything worked until router died. My house does not have a huge floorarea (maybe 70m2), but on my porch wifi was very bad. Streaming to the ground floor AC87 (TV connected to it via LAN) and 2nd floor Devocol Client (TV attached via LAN) was good. At peak times, there could be 11 Wifi5 clients connecting at 2.4Ghz and I have it setup that I am the only 5Ghz Wifi5 client but I am not getting the best speeds…

More generally and a bit technical on Asus (mesh) routers/nodes : are the functionalities provided at the endpoint level or from the wan router ? Subsequently, Asus released the RT-AC3100, which shares the same Wi-Fi specs but has four fewer LAN ports. Since the RT-AC88U is an AC3100 router, folks were confused between the two at the time — and probably still are today. Asus didn’t confirm this, but my take is the S in the RT-AX86S is short for “stripped-down.” This new router has way less to offer than the RT-AX86U.What i’d like to get would be more bandwith to 2nd floor since a pc is connected (again via LAN) to the Devolo client. Nice to have would be better wifi on the porch. Should i be getting rid of the rest of the hardware and buy three routers? Would Mesh be a solution? The routers are more or less arranged in a single vertical column over the floors. Moneywise i would be able to spend a bit, but would to know if there are good solutions (like spending 1200€ on three AX11000 vs something else for hald and getting 90% of the performance….).
