About this deal

On another note, the O’Hero family’s history plays a large role in the story and the world, so it was interesting to learn about that over the course of the book. K2 and his sister, Izzabird are the descendants of the magical O'Hero family, who have been joined in their rather unique and strange home by Theo and Mabel Smith. The jungle world felt very scary and dangerous, and the ambiguous nature of many of the supporting characters was fun and kept me guessing. After meeting a coven of old ladies, it becomes clear that Orla's arrival in Poldevel is no longer a coincidence. Soggy-Bottom--Marsh-Place (while very clearly a funny name for the UK) is something I could see being said in the Ryan-George universe.

K2 O’Hero is a seemingly ordinary boy—after all, he and his twin sister, Izzabird, have been sworn to keep their family's Magical history a secret. Thank you to the author, the publisher Little Brown Young Readers, the team at TBR and Beyond Tours, and NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary review copy of the book as part of my participation in the blog tour. However, that was more a benefit rather than a distraction from the overall story as I felt it added a more whimsical air to the story.K2 has the Atlas Gift, the ability to draw maps of places he has never seen and create doorways to them. If you enjoy humorous fantasy tales that celebrate differences and the meaning of family, you should definitely check out this book. Cressida Cowell is the only author who can transport me back to my own childhood wonder through ingenious, imaginative storytelling.

I had some trouble deciphering a few of the words that accompanied the illustrations during the early chapters but didn’t have any problems with this once I got used to the handwriting. Hachette Book Group is a leading book publisher based in New York and a division of Hachette Livre, the third-largest publisher in the world. From the bestselling author of How to Train Your Dragon and The Wizards of Once comes an out-of-this-world new adventure. This is not a standard magic caste system, but there didn’t appear to be any consequences on the user once they had used their gift. It's clear after reading Cressida Cowell's latest book, Which Way to Anywhere, that the limits of her imagination know no bounds. Which Way to Anywhere suffers from the same issue, and most of the adult characters are captured early on, meaning they are names the reader is aware of, but we don’t know anything about them. What they don't know is that the detailed maps of fantastical worlds, with wild, smoky rivers and ferocious plants that K2 creates are in fact real places. Only one of them will inherit the family fortune and so a race is afoot to save the dwindling Petty-Squabble empire and win the love of their parents. The novel deals with themes of adjusting to a new blended family and also touches upon ecological and environmental issues.

When their baby sister, Annipeck, is kidnapped, the warring stepsiblings will have to use K2’s gift to find a crossing point into one of those worlds and embark on a daring rescue mission. The information on this site is aimed primarily at parents, educators, reviewers and retailers and you must be over the age of 13 to subscribe to our newsletter. When their baby sister Annipeck is stolen by a strange man claiming to be a geography teacher, they have to journey to a strange desert world to rescue her, at the same time as through their own differences.Make sure to put your thinking cap on and spritz some Steri-gas on yourself before you step into this Otherworld. This series will not only leave children entertained, but will also empower them to battle climate change and environmental issues. Introducing us to a blended family of warring step-siblings - some of whom have magic, while others have no idea that it exists - the funny and fast-paced adventure begins when the youngest, baby Annipeck, is taken.

I hate to say, but really when all this book has is 4 kids, an evil force that they only encounter once and an illegal piece of paper; it's just a pile of words. The depths of our Children's Laureate's imagination knows no bounds in this action-packed adventure about a boy who can create maps to transport himself into imaginary worlds. Candy Gourlay introduces Wild Song, her companion novel to Bone Talk, in which Luki and Samkad leave their home in the Philippines for America. Then the narrator of the story (we find out who this is at the end) takes us back in time to how this came to be, and it’s a totally thrilling tale which centres on what happens if the fantasy worlds children draw become real?
