About this deal

I have been using the mio10 units since they came out, and they were not bad (better than the MOTU XTs I replaced with them). There were some growing pains, and advanced configuration of them (including network MIDI) was painful using the original iConfig utility. The Auracle software helped "normal" users who were not trying to do anything complex, but more advanced config still required the iConfig utility which is difficult to use at best...there were promises that the Auracle software would replace it for advanced config, but that has yet to materialize and they have moved the older mio devices to "legacy" status as of a few months ago when they launched the mioXL. Ethernet connectivity means MIDI is on the network wherever you need it. Regular USB connectivity limits you to keeping your interface within 15ft of your computer. Ethernet connectivity gives you up to 330ft / 100m connection between you and your interface. Drop an interface in every room of your studio, or place an interface virtually anywhere in a venue.

To their credit, IConnectivity offers very communicative, robust support system staffed with people who really seem to know their stuff. Addition of channels for iConnectAUDIO4+ routing configurations. Stream is revised to be only stereo channels for compatibility with streaming software. The iConnectivity mioXL USB MIDI Interface is a powerful interface for any singer-songwriter or composer. It features deep configuration options through updated Auracle software, which makes it easy to use and streamline your workflow on the go. So did you get a definitive answer as to how many ports this can surface to a DAW? Right now, I have the USB MIDI ports* (I didn't realize only 7 show, and not 8. I'll need to try them out) and 8 of the 12 DIN outputs visible. I want to connect two of them via a direct ethernet cable, but not give up DIN ports.I was excited to get this device as I have a lot of USB synths, as well as MIDI DIN equipment. I wanted to replace my MIDI interface and USB hubs with the MIO XL, and just use the network connection to run all my gear. Connect all your MIDI devices (USB-MIDI, DIN-MIDI, RTP/Network-MIDI) and Mac, PC, and iOS computing devices to each other, and let this rugged, versatile interface put you in control of your MIDI devices and workflow. For me Midi has always kind of been a one way deal where a synth or sequencer sent out Data and using Thru ports or splitter boxes you could send that to several devices. Or using merge boxes you could merge several devices down to one. The iConnectivity mioXL USB MIDI Interface is a networkable, eight-in/twelve-out interface and hub that can be used with your computer or tablet. It's perfect for people who want access to all of the latest music production software without having another device plugged into their system. I have been noodling about with audio hardware & software for 30+ years. Reasonably familiar with midi routing, able to navigate most of my tools and toys without excessive reliance on manuals most of the time.

Performance Optimized - A MIDI interface that works too slowly is useless. mioXC uses a powerful 32-bit ARM Cortex processor, ensuring dense MIDI and SysEx streams are managed with ease. Network connections offer some significant advantages over USB, for example. Cat5/6 cables allow for huge connection distances; over 90 meters between devices! Compare that with 15 metres for DIN-MIDI and only 5 meters with USB and it’s clear to see the advantages for studio and stage. With the mioXL, you'll never again be limited by your home or venue's length. With an Ethernet connection and up to 22 virtual network ports for syncing multiple devices across all of them at once - hooking into this Cat 5 means there is no limit on how long it can go! The iConnectivity mioXL is a versatile multi-channel MIDI interface that can be used to send performances from stage controllers or sound modules. It also provides instant access for all your synth room needs in any DAW software, with no need of installing additional drivers. Auracle for X-Series (MacOS) is built to support versions 10.13 and up (64-bit only). This includes MacOS 10.13 High Sierra, MacOS 10.14 Mojave, MacOS 10.15 Catalina, MacOS 11 Big Sur, MacOS 12 Monterey, and MacOS 13 Ventura. Other versions may be able to run Auracle for X-Series but are unsupported.Initial support for configuring iConnectMIDI2+, iConnectMIDI4+, mio2, mio4, and mio10 within Auracle for X-Series. This includes routing (MIDI4+, mio4, and mio10 - mio2 and mio4 in subsequent release), filtering (all devices), remapping (all devices), preset save/load (all devices), RTP configuration (midi4+, mio4, and mio10), and USB host port management (midi4+, mio4, and mio10). So what does this mean if you’re a musician or a technician? Well, thanks to something called RTP-MIDI, it’s possible to send MIDI data over an Ethernet network; LOTS of MIDI data in actual fact. When it works, it works; offers extraordinary routing options and opportunities. The hardware feels solidly built and touch-screen adjustment make the smallish display surprisingly versatile. There's a generous amount of physical input & output and my studio still has room to grow even with all the DIN & USB gadgets connected. It's not cheap but it certainly seems good value for money.

ETA: My brain was misremembering on the Mio10 - USB 1-4 is a port to DAW while 5-10 were a single port in the DAW. Stability fixes for USB and RTP discovery and communication. Performance is greatly improved for RTP. However, RTP is still recommended for use over only wired connections. mioXL's display, rotary encoder and capacitive touch controls make navigating presets and monitoring MIDI traffic easy Spending the time to set it all up carefully really paid off. Drawing diagrams with MIDI channels, filtering points, etc, was very helpful. Now I can send and receive to/from every device I own without re-patching. The Plug and Play connection is a unique feature of mioXL that allows you to plug in any device without the need for installation. This eliminates time consuming installations, CD-ROMs scratching your computer's hard drive - it just works with no hassle at all thanks our class compliant networking capabilities.

Connect all your MIDI devices (USB-MIDI, DIN-MIDI, Ethernet-MIDI) to each other and Mac, PC, and iOS computing devices and let this rugged, versatile interface put you in control of your MIDI devices and workflow.

Odd that the four output ports on the front panel are not visible to the computer. You get the first 8 and that's it. Ethernet RTP-MIDI Network port - 22 virtual network ports can easily be assigned to onboard DIN and USB ports as well as any other connected computing devices. These make all MIDI devices accessible to Mac, PC, iOS and other mobile computing devices via a single cable.mioXL's OLED display and encoder wheel gives you a crisp clear way of monitoring MIDI traffic, viewing, and selecting presets. Making it possible to streamline and expand your MIDI setup, no matter how massive or demanding. With all its advanced capabilities mioXL still remains accessible for anyone looking at doing whatever they want with music in creative ways. This is because of the simple interface that makes using these features fast and easy. If you follow a similar process to what I did here, there's *NO WAY* to screw it up. This is literally as easy as it could possibly be. I'm a software engineer by trade true, but one that values a good HCI, and this one is great but has one major flaw that I didn't talk about yet.
