About this deal

Wilbur’s imagination and creative powers remained undiminished until the end, and he left many notes and drafts outlining his plans for future titles. Bonnier Books UK and the Wilbur Smith Estate look forward to working with the talented co-authors Wilbur selected to complete these unfinished works, which include further adventures set in the history and mythology of Ancient Egypt and two more titles in the Prey Zone series for middle-grade and teen readers, which launched in September 2022 and continues in September 2023 with Prey Zone: Serpent’s Lair. " Kate Parkin, Managing Director of Adult Trade at Bonnier Books said “While the undisputed Master of Adventure is sadly no longer with us, his remarkable talent for storytelling and world-building shines throughout these forthcoming books. We look forward to sharing this legacy with the legion of Wilbur Smith fans worldwide for years to come”.

Mark Chadbourn, listed as collaborator, has written historical fiction before, most notably the Hereward series featuring an Anglo-Saxon warrior. He’s also written a number of novels in the fantasy, science fiction, and horror genres, often under the pseudonym, James Wilde. Definitely an experienced author. Reportedly, it was due to his Pendragon novel receiving runner-up status in the annual adventure writing contest run by the Wilbur and Niso Smith Foundation that led to his first collaboration with Wilbur Smith on “New Kingdom” On his journey, Piay and his close ally, Hannu, face immeasurable hardships and bloody battles. As they gain allies, face betrayals and, in Piay's case, find love. Piay and his assistant, Hannu, are the main characters who travel to Sparta to ask for help in ridding Egypt of the Hyksos invaders. Things don't go quite to plan though and they meet some very unsavoury characters along the way. Some are not what they first appear to be.Another beautiful journey from the witty mind of Wilbur Smith; rife with emotion, love, loathing and loss.

The publisher said all three manuscripts were completed by Smith in collaboration with co-author Tom Harper, who also worked alongside Smith on previous Courtney books Tiger’s Prey, Ghost Fire and Storm Tide. Talking broadly without giving any spoilers; the series follows the time in Egypt when Pharaohs ruled ancient Egypt and has a cast of likable characters with whom the reader can easily relate. The story revolves around a kingdom built on gold, greed and war. As the men try to fight for the crown, only a handful of the people actually try to restore peace before realizing that the thirst for blood can only be quenched by blood itself. Some characters want gold, others pursue the crown while sum just want to avenge the deaths of their loved ones. It is a captivating story of love, deception, power struggle and the ruthlessness which takes a hold of men when they are blinded by rage or greed. However, i must say that though Piay is made out to be a master spy - 'an expert of the arts of peace and war' - he never really fully proves this to be true. Throughout the book, it is mostly Hannu, or his other companions who turn the tide through their wisdom and decisions. He has his occasional moments, but Piay mostly seems to just go with the flow of fortune and advice. Just one man can be dependent upon at times like this and is summoned to the Pharaoh. Taita being the only man of knowledge is sent to the source of the river to find out the problem and rectify it before the kingdom falls and people begin to revolt against the Pharaoh. Yet none of them have any idea of the horrors that lie ahead and the ambush that has been preplanned for the visitors by the enemies far and beyond at the end of their world. “Desert God” is the story about restring Egypt to its former glory by Taita and his companions who are still loyal to the Pharaoh and are trustworthy. They must create a plan to dismantle and destroy the enemy that threatens the kingdom and restore its former peak. The plan they make is difficult but not impossible but for them a treacherous journey across Babylon, Arabia and the Nile awaits if they are to achieve what they hope to achieve. Unbeknownst to them, their biggest foe will not meet them on the battlefield and it will not only threaten their hard made plan but also out the future of Egypt hanging by the thinnest of threads which could snap at any moment should any mistake occur. Smith dedicated his books to her until she died from brain cancer in 1999, following a six-year illness. [43] Smith said:

His Writings

I actually really dislike hating something someone has spent creative time on. It feels like a plot outline that's written in more detail than necessary but not actually developed into a book where characters have motivations, feelings, thoughts or heart... it's the most boring book I've read in a decade. Maybe longer. Piay, un giovane guerriero addestrato dal celebre Taita, è pronto a difendere e salvare la sua terra insieme al suo braccio destro. In the city of Lahun, Hui lives an enchanted life. The favoured son of a doting father, and ruler-in-waiting of the great city, his fate is set. But behind the beautiful façades a sinister evil is plotting. Craving power and embittered by jealousy, Hui's stepmother, the great sorceress Ipsetnofret, and Hui's own brother Qen, orchestrate the downfall of Hui's father, condemning Hui and seizing power in the city.

Something catastrophic is taking place in the distant and totally unexplored depths of Africa, from where the mighty river springs. In desperation the Pharaoh sends Taita, the only man who might be able to find his way through the hazardous territory to the source of the Nile and discover the cause of all their woes. But not even Taita can have any idea of what a terrible enemy waits in ambush in those dark lands at the end of their world.A thrilling new Wilbur Smith series for the next generation with high action and high stakes - starring teen protagonists Ralph and Robyn Ballantyne. Bonnier Books UK will publish 10 new books from Wilbur Smith, including a spin-off collection set in the same universe ashis 1994 Egyptian series. Wilbur Smith. The narrator, Taita, is a magus. The story contains just enough of the supernatural to qualify this as fantasy fiction without really relying on magic too heavily.
