About this deal

And Kate is the new (professional) beginning I’m talking about here. Given the detail and care Cavanagh gives her character, I figured she’d either get her own series, or be a more prominent player in Eddie’s life moving forward. Seeing how Kate progressed in this book — standing up to the sexist bullshit at her firm, before she steals Alexandra from under her boss’s nose is a thing of beauty, and yes, I was #TeamKate all the way. If I was on trial for a murder I committed, I’d be watching the lawyers too. Both sides. Making sure no one figures it all out, and if they get too close – bam.’ This book is more than just a crime thriller. It shows how Kate Brooks stood up to her harassing boss and turned the tables. Flynn has his work cut out for him. This trial is going to take everything he has ever learned as a con man and a lawyer combined to acquit his client. He is sure that he is defending the innocent sister – Sofia. She couldn’t have possibly committed such heinous act – she’s too meek and damaged, isn’t she? The signs started becoming clearer and by that point I was a goner. I was sure Flynn was on the winning side but occasionally I could feel doubt creeping in. Eddie only has 48 hours to defend Volchek in an impossible murder trial—and win—if he wants to save his daughter. But if he uses this evidence in court, both he and his client - the dead man's widow - will be in mortal danger. On appearance it appears obvious who is the guilty party. The sisters born a year apart but really are quite different. One successful, a golden girl in looks and endeavours. The other pale and troubled. Alexandra and Sofia’s reputation preceded them. But is all as it seems? The evidence increasingly seems as it could go either way in supporting or damning each of the sisters.

Another character that I loved was Bloch. She was uptight and really cool. I would love it if there was a separate storyline of hers. This is the celebrity murder trial of the century and the defence want one man on their team: con artist turned lawyer Eddie Flynn. Fifty-Fifty is a blast to the genitals. Its swift, precise and you are left reeling on the floor. I am obsessed with courtroom dramas. This began when I was a member of a Jury – the atmosphere, the tension and the responsibility emits a fizzing spark within me. Watching and waiting to see just how it is going to pan out. It was a dark and stormy night. Lightning flashed and thunder rolled across the sky. Rain spattered a mysterious, hooded stranger who peered over th

The supporting cast are suitably helpful in a pondering way in pitting their wits against a revealed strategic mastermind and the rest are regular stereotypes that assist in making Fifty Fifty an engaging lightweight read. The structure of the book is really the best thing about it. We have the story told from the point of view of the two lawyers defending the sisters and from the mysterious ‘She’, the sister who is the killer. This set up works very well until two thirds in, when you just want the book to end so you can congratulate yourself or commiserate on being astute or oblivious to who did it. For a crime thriller lover, this book is a good read. I rate this book a 4.5 out of 5. This is my honest and unbiased review. Before I began reading this book, I asked my mother, as well as my sister who they thought, would be the killer. My sister went by a wild guess while my mother guessed by looking at the cover of the book. After I finished this book, they were both right about the identity of the killer. Fifty-Fifty was like running with both shoelaces tied together. If you examine the evidence slowly and deliberately you can make it to the end with one conclusion and your conscience intact. Hurry to the finish line and all you’ll do is trip up and miss vital information. But the sisters… I think these sisters would be the very picture of chalk and cheese — Alexandra is accomplished, put together and hates her sister. Sofia is fragile, and emotionally spent and hates her sister. So who is the killer? That is the question isn’t it? The killer is absolutely genius in her way of killing and she is merciless to the point where she actually enjoys the thought of hurting people. Opening Fifty-Fifty felt like a door slamming shut behind you when you know no one is home. Cavanagh knew my weakness and he wasn’t afraid to manipulate it.
