About this deal

Fill a stainless steel or enamel pot with just enough water for the fabric to move freely. Turn on to high heat.

Instructions below are for achieving the most vibrant color. For lighter shades, use less dye. Add dye to the dye bath in the appropriate amount to achieve desired shade. For cotton, linen and rayon dissolve one cup (237 ml) of salt in a little hot water and add to dye bath. For silk and wool add a third of a cup (78 ml) of white vinegar instead of salt. Avoid pouring directly onto fabric. For cotton, linen and rayon add one cup (237 ml) of salt. For silk add 1/3 cup (78 ml) of white vinegar instead of salt. Do not use the washing machine method for wool as it will felt. Choose iDye Poly color closest to the iDye for natural fabrics color and add both to water. Add iDye Color Intensifier (14 ml/lb fabric) and bring to a simmer. Stir until dissolved.

Washing machine:

A small amount of any dye makes a pastel (example: use 1/16, 1/8 or 1/4 tsp of dye colour mixed with 1 cup hot water). Start with the smallest amount and add more dye or hot water as needed. Every fabric has a different color. The result of the dyeing always depends on the material of the fabric, the temperature during dyeing, the original color and many other factors. Maintain a rolling boil and stir frequently for ½ to 1 hour. For uniform colour use constant agitation.

Fabric Dye Colour Guide Create 100's of new custom fabric dye colours using the core Tintex dyes. A basic sampling of colours is very versatile for many projects.Fill a stainless steel or enamel pot with just enough water for the fabric to move freely. Turn heat on high. Get Warmer Colours:add a small amount of brilliant yellow, tangerine orange, scarlet or cardinal red dye (example: add brilliant yellow to make magenta a true red). If you use Aybel Fiske, add the content of the sachet Aybel Fiske into the bin for softener of your washing machine. Hand dye Turn off heat and allow the dye bath to return to room temperature, stirring occasionally. Rinse when cool enough to handle. Wear gloves as residual dye can stain skin.

Maintain a rolling boil and stir frequently for ½ to 1 hour. For uniform color, use constant agitation. Extend the dyeing time by resetting the wash cycle before the rinse cycle begins. The longer the dyeing time, the darker the colour and better the fixation. We recommend 50 to 60 minutes of dyeing time. Do two separate dyebaths, one with salt and one with vinegar. This will probably be best for darkest colours.

When the machine has completed the wash cycle allow it to complete the balance of the wash/rinse/spin cycle. Add the iDye Poly dye and iDye Color Intensifier (14 ml/2 lbs fabric) to water and bring to a simmer. Stir until dissolved. Use double the usual amount of dye for projects using dark colours and bright colours. Get the most colour intensity when you use the hottest water possible for your fabric (example: use the stove top dyeing method, heat water with a kettle or use 140°F water). Neutralize Bright Fabric When Over-Dyeing Darker If you are doing a cotton and silk blend and don’t know whether to add the salt or the vinegar you have 3 options: Pour the dissolved paint into the main washing machine detergent container. For washing machines that do NOT start pumping off, the dissolved paint can also be poured into the drum of the washing machine.
