About this deal

The set up with this story gives us an intimate and intense scenario, which makes us feel like we’re eavesdropping on a private session, which is effectively what the reader is doing. As a result of reading this I would read other books by Philippa Perry and feel that I can’t help but like her. I really liked it - I think it would be interesting to therapists and people who've been to therapy (and curious others). It's an interesting graphic novel with extensive notes accompanying each page that follows one chap as he goes through therapy in hopes of ridding himself of a particular compulsive behavior.

Meski ada "studi kasus" yang dibawakan dalam Couch Fiction, tapi bahasanya tetap ramah untuk pembaca pemula. The story seemed too simplistic and wasn't really engaging, probably partly due to the many footnotes; the illustrations were rather poor and unattractive ; the font for the footnotes was so small they were almost unreadable ; the explanations in the footnotes were mostly too short to really offer an understanding, unless you already are familiar with these often complex theoretical ideas. Besonders gelungen finde ich die Idee, den Bildern mit Sprech- und Gedankenblasen noch (optional zu lesenden) Text unten hinzuzufügen, der interessierten Leser*innen fachliche Zusatzinformationen zum Geschehen liefert.

Her journey with one of her fictional clients was insightful and showed exactly how therapy sessions work. As well as illustrating this tale of psychotherapy, Junko is a landscape designer/gardener and has also designed Japanese hieroglyphics for some of Grayson's work. This gentle but firm dispelling of the "all-knowing" image of the therapist is an especially good thing for anyone thinking about therapy to understand from the first. There are somewhat extensive footnotes for almost every page that point out nuances that may otherwise be missed. And I suppose, grudgingly, I have to acknowledge that when the princess could not get a wink of sleep on her fifteen mattresses because of the pea hidden under the first mattress, it was real discomfort she was feeling.

Having previously read Susie Orbach's 'The Impossibility of sex' years ago when I was working in psychiatry/psychotherapy I was really keen to read this after an interview I read about the author. Singkat cerita, apa yang harus dilakukan lelaki ini nggak bisa sekadar "berhenti" tapi tau akar masalahnya.Based on a case study of Pat (our sandal-wearing, cat-loving psychotherapist) and her new client, James (an ambitious barrister with a potentially harmful habit he can’t stop), this graphic novel follows the anxieties, frustrations, mind-wanderings and break-throughs of each, through a year of therapy sessions together. Whether it's more interesting for its content, or simply by the fact of its existence, I'll leave up to you, dear reader .
