About this deal

There are handy chapters on formula and mixed feeding, which cut through advertising spiel and give you the facts you need to choose and use formula safely. It is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice and should not be relied on as health or personal advice. Some of them talk about other people's experiences of motherhood and birth, some can be useful tools in the recovery from birth trauma, some can help you learn more about your baby and some are just a bit of fun. One of the funniest ones listed under Pushing; "Wanting to have the most intense bowel movement of my life. Her loving, no‑nonsense approach helped make the births of my two daughters the best hours of my life.

Many parents-to-be and their support people have little knowledge of what to expect in the birthing suite. A widely acclaimed best seller since it was first published, it has empowered hundreds of thousands of women worldwide to make informed, positive choices about their births. I had a long, difficult labor with my first child and I scoffed at the amount of time Martha Sears spent huffing and puffing. I had my mind set on c section and I still do, but I've become a lot more confident in my journey now that I've learned more about childbirth and what it can be like for different people.Written in Milli Hill’s trademark warm and witty style, discover vital information on everything from the truth about pain and what giving birth actually feels like, to your choices and rights in the birth room; from optimal cord clamping, to postnatal mental health; from the inside track on breastfeeding, to positive, gentle caesarean. This book is a valuable resource for anyone who is soon to give birth, and to birth workers and anyone supporting parents through pregnancy and birth. Accessible, engaging and explained in a simple and conversational style, the pages are packed with information and real life stories covering:• The stages of labour and birth• How different forms of pain relief, including epidurals, work• Induction of labour, ceasars and assisted birth• Monitoring of the baby and mother• Post childbirth recoveryProfessor Tong carefully and simply breaks down the evidence and facts to provide you with everything you need to know to turn anxiety and trepidation about childbirth into confidence, empowerment and cherished, life-long memories.

However, the truth is that often motherhood is the first time for many people that gender issues become so obvious. She provides an explanation of why mindfulness can be so helpful at this stage and gives examples both of how to do it and also some lovely affirmations and visualisations to use. Whether you’re in the early months of pregnancy and are anxious about the whole process, or you’re under pressure to make decisions about your upcoming labour, The Happy Birth Book cuts through all the mixed messages and urban myths surrounding birth to give you straightforward, evidence-based advice which will help you and your partner to choose the path to parenthood that is right for you. Bill and Martha Sears, the pediatrics specialists whose books on pregnancy, babies, and parenting have become widely praised bestsellers, thoroughly explore the abundant choices couples face when anticipating the birth of their child. Other than that, like I said, it's a very informative read, written from a unique perspective (the married authors are a MD-RN team who have had many of their children at home).

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Milli reminds us that there is another way; we have human rights and choices, and the evidence base at times shows something very different to what is routinely practised in a lot of hospitals and birthing centres up and down the country. This is a concise read, but elegantly describes some of the work of Michel Odent, talking about what supports a woman giving birth. It's nice to see a natural birth encouraged in a hospital setting, since that is essentially the only option in Ohio. Again, I understand the rationale ("losing it" usually means lots of fear and tension, which increases pain), but again, I think there are more helpful approaches. The Calm Births book is a comprehensive guide on how to achieve a positive, calm birth no matter what happens on the day. I think it would do wonders for helping moms to tell their doctors they want to have an unmedicated birth without there being skepticism.
