About this deal

Characters are luminous conduits through which the narrative unfurls, bursting forth vividly under Robinson’s hand. This sorcery of characterization allows the story to coalesce around their palpable presence, creating an immersive experience that ignites the imagination. Up until book #24,this was one of my favourite series. Solid police procedurals, interesting characters, good writing. Then the author decided to veer into international politics, (botched) undercover operations, war crimes, etc. It wan´t a turn he could pull off,and the series lost its charm. Most of it pivoted on a character very irritating to many readers. Robinson is an author with amazing empathy, a snare-trap ear for dialogue, and a clear eye for the telling detail.”—Michael Connelly

In 1990 he published a stand-alone novel, Caedmon’s Song, a psychological thriller in which two young women in different parts of England find their paths crossing in an alarming way.The final Inspector Banks novel, Standing in the Shadows, will be released on April 11, 2023 in the US, on May 16, 2023 in Canada, and on June 8, 2023, in the UK. This one is, sadly, the last one there will ever be,and it´s more of the same. It drags a lot,the dual timelines contribute nothing and what starts as a puzzle turns into unbelievable scenarios.

Engrossing... Those who enjoy methodical police procedurals that build to a logical, satisfying conclusion will be amply rewarded.”— Publishers Weekly on Careless Love Not Dark Yet by Peter Robinson sees the author and his creation, Supt Alan Banks on top form in the 27th book in the series * Peterborough Telegraph * The 28 th twisting installment in the DCI Alan Banks mystery series that Stephen King calls “the best now on the market.” I've thoroughly enjoyed Peter Robinson's police procedural novels featuring DCI (now DS) Alan Banks & it's with great sadness that after the author's death this will be his final story.

Decades later, in November 2019, an archaeologist unearths a skeleton that turns out to be far more contemporary than the Roman remains she is seeking. Detective Superintendent Alan Banks and his team are called in to investigate, but there is little to be gleaned from the remains themselves. Left with few clues, Banks and his team must rely on their wits to hunt down a killer. OH! The Last DCI Inspector Banks story as Peter Robinson has pass (RIP). This was the TWENTY EIGHTH book int the series! Robinson approaches his characters with immense compassion.”— New York Times Book Review on Many Rivers to Cross Robinson pulls the reader in with deft characterizations, powerfully understated action scenes, and strong locales . . . A s trong addition to the Banks series that suggests tantalizing possibilities for the next installment * Kirkus * A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy.

One of the finest police procedural writers around... [ Standing in the Shadows] is as narratively rich and surprising as Robinson's best work. Knowing it's his last makes the reading bittersweet."— New York Times Book Review Flash forward to 2019. During an archeological dig in a field destined to become a shopping mall, the skeleton of a man is uncovered. It is clear, however, that his burial is much more recent than Roman times. It is also clear he was murdered. DCI Banks and his team are called in to investigate. Robinson had completed another Banks novel before he died. Standing in the Shadows is due to be published next year.Mr. Robinson has always been consistent with his characterizations of Banks and his team. He paints them brilliantly. The reader feels like they are old friends and gets to witness their conversations and actions. I’ve truly enjoyed getting to know them all. Within this literary tapestry, suspense and intrigue are woven deftly, an enchanting blend that transcends mundane boundaries. The ebb and flow between murder and normality, crime and routine, engenders an inexorable pull, a siren’s call that precludes setting the book aside. I am a first-time reader of acclaimed author Peter Robinson’s DCI Alan Banks police procedurals! I know, I know. Imagine coming into the series at #28 … cheeky, right?! No, I haven’t even seen the TV adaptations, either. An honest-to-goodness newbie. In 2019, at an archeological dig outside of Eastvale in the North of England, a skeleton is found. Unfortunately, evidence points to it’s burial being in the recent, rather than ancient past. A body in an abandoned field probably means murder, so Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks and his team are called in to investigate. Without clues, and unable to identify the deceased, Banks may end up without a solution to this murder. RIP Peter Robinson. No, I haven't read the book yet, but so sad at his passing. I'm sure I'll love this one as much as the others. Will really miss these stories and characters.
