About this deal

One of the best features of the Zen dac is the Truebass, it's just a bass boost but it can simply turn most of the headphones into bass machines. The other interesting feature is the powermatch gain which is very useful and delivers better dynamics to the sound. We do provide installation options for built-in appliances providing it is simply a case of fitting the appliance and furniture doors. Any additional work to the kitchen units or carpentry work required will need to be completed at the customer’s expense. Please note: TV and larger floorstanding speaker deliveries are not available to Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Scottish Islands, and Channel Islands. Mids: are clear with a pleasant hint of warmth, nothing is added here just well done clean and detailed mids. Compact enough to use as a USB DAC/amp on your work desk and stylish enough to use at home with your favourite active speakers or amp, it delivers a level of specification and performance that punches above its super-affordable price tag.

ZEN DAC Signature V2 by iFi audio - A pure performance

The Zen DAC feels sturdy and is slightly heavy at a little over a pound. When I first held it in my hands I immediately said to myself this feels more expensive than the asking price of 129 USD at the time of this writing. It feels like a quality item. Unfortunately, our Installation Service excludes all gas appliances. It is the customer’s responsibility to find a gas safe engineer to connect the appliance. Any work conducted by a third part gas safe engineer will be at the customer’s expense and we will not accept any liability for their work. That would be the Zen DAC V2’s ability to act as a full MQA decoder, as opposed to the V1, which was just an MQA “renderer.” That means the V2 doesn’t need a piece of software like TIDAL or Roon (a Core Decoder) to do the initial “unfold” of the MQA music file. The Burr-Brown True Native® chipset means file formats remain unchanged or ‘bit-perfect’. This means you are listening to music as the artist intended in the format in which it was recorded. Ok, for a lot people it will be an upgrade. But 'strange' enough not for me. I have a RME Fireface UC, that doesn't do MQA or DSD, but I used Audirvana for testing (and next to in also an Ifi iDSD that just came out). Both the Ifi Zen Dac AND the Ifi had less detail and sharpness, while the RME Fireface is 'limited' to 192 kHz 24BIT and as I said, doesn't do MQA unfolding, but apparently the software unfolding (also tested on Tidal Master with same outcome) didn't do as much as just a better sound chip. And it wasn't just a little bit, it was quite a difference. Both on MQA and DSD64. Strange? Or does the RME is a different leage because it is a bit more expensive too? HD 6XX (balanced): It's good, i like the bass boost function with it, you definitely want high gain for this one. Unbalanced is probably a step down (not tested). Does it sound better on the Ferrum? Yeah, but it's best on the Echo MK II tube amp anyway, so who cares.

iFi ZEN DAC V2 - Desktop Digital Analog Converter With USB 3.

When the iFi Hip DAC was received, it did not look like the typical iFi DAC Amplifier because previously I could tell an iFi amp from afar but not this one. This one was different but none the less I liked not only its looks but the sound quality it had as well and I gave it a good rating and review.Treble: is neutral and has a good extension , more so with a balanced connection. Still its has good clean highs without harshness I found on some other amps.

This is my first experience with an external DAC. Basically coming from the days of records and cassettes, class A amplifiers with least THD and IMD, great damping factors, this journey with ifi Zen DAC V2 has been both interesting and exhaustive. A second level, ‘MQA’ (green light) is available to indicate that although the stream is genuine, provenance may be uncertain or that it is not yet the final release. The two outputs have a switch in the center labeled fixed and variable. This switch either keeps the output voltages constant or variable with the use of the volume knob so it makes it possible to use the Zen DAC to control amplified speakers.I find the whole cult of Amir on ASR tiresome and slightly suspect. Measurements are interesting but can’t tell you how something sounds. I made many A-B-A comparisons between the two, and as you would suspect, the two DACs sounded quite similar, whether listening to MQA or Non-MQA streams.
