About this deal

Confessions about Anxiety - director Lars von Trier talks about the controversial message of his film. She offers her own interpretations of the character she played but doesn’t have all of the answers about the film, admitting that the director didn’t like offering explanations to anything. This is a very informative, well conducted, and perhaps also a bit controversial conversation that deconstructs the story of Antichrist, its unorthodox message, etc.

The score and sound design of 'Antichrist' blurs the line between the two words, with eerie noises turning into atonal musical lines.

While in the heat of passion, their young child climbs out an open window and plummets to his death. Note: This Blu-ray disc is encoded in 1080i50, a standard not supported by the overwhelming majority of Blu-ray players and TV sets in the U. He talks a bit about Manderlay, the previous film he worked with Lars von Trier on then moving on to how he got the role in Antichrist, which was pretty much by chance. Eden - production designer Karl "Kalli" Juliusson, producer Meta Louise Foldager and director Lars von Trier talk about the specific locations used in the film. Antichrist' is a hard movie to watch, an even harder movie to love, but one that is a hell of a lot of fun to talk about.

Deciding that she needs to face her fears, he takes her to a cabin in the woods where she spent a previous summer with the boy. She addresses the nudity and some of the more extreme moments of the film, and even talks about the unorthodox shoot, which was very professional with huge crews during the slow moments sequences and then very small and almost chaotic with handheld equipment during the “real” scenes. On this mix, these ideas take on new life and dimension, and if you aren't totally in the 'Antichrist' world by the time you're done listening to this track, you aren't paying attention. He admits he didn’t/doesn’t completely understand every facet of the film but wasn’t concerned about asking questions, and also wasn’t concerned about the film’s violence, though he admits the original screenplay was actually worse. Also included is "Charlotte Gainsbourg at Cannes" (HD, 6:18) and "Willem Dafoe at Cannes" (HD, 8:05), two standard interviews about the reaction to 'Antichrist' at Cannes and their experiences at the festival. The effects team was under the impression that von Trier wouldn’t show the actual “act” on film and was surprised that he would end up wanting a close-up of the actual even. Following its award winning success at this year s Cannes Film Festival and explosive box office performance, one of the most controversial films ever to receive a cinema release in the UK finally makes it way on to the DVD and Blu-Ray SPECIAL FEATURES: Feature Commentary with Director Lars von Trier, Interview with Charlotte Gainsbourg, Interview with Willem Dafoe FEATURETTES The Evil of Woman, The Visual Style of Antichrist, The Make-Up Effects and Props of Antichrist, The Three Beggars, Eden, Confessions about Anxiety, The Sound and Music of Antichrist, The Antichrist Test, Behind the test, Antichrist Chaos Reigns at the Cannes Film Festival. One of the chief concerns of 'Antichrist' is nature, and so this type of immaculate transfer does a great job bringing out the tactile detail of everything involving the Eden sections of the movie – the gnarled trunk of a tree, the matted down hair of the talking fox, and the acorns that tumble out of the tree in slow motion. I don’t know if the film is one many will find themselves wanting to rewatch often, though I will say the film certainly benefits from multiple viewings. The 'tutters' (you know the type, the folk who turn their noses up at Roy Chubby Brown jokes) are, of course, having a field day with this movie because they're undoubtedly unable to sit and view this movie, take in all the horrific images and hard to deal with subjects then consciously and unaffectedly ask the question 'why?

As expected, Criterion have put together a fantastic package for it - the film looks and sounds terrific, and all of the supplemental features from the French Blu-ray release have been ported.Audio Commentary This is a very lively and entertaining commentary with director von Trier and British film professor Murray Smith. The third section revolves around the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, where Antichrist made its premiere. Overview - Lars von Trier (Europa, Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark) shook up the film world when he premiered Antichrist at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. Von Trier is a bit of a depressive and has something of a speech impediment (not to mention a thick accent), but Smith has a lot of fun lobbying questions and theories in the filmmaker's direction.

The supplemental features on the disc include an audio commentary with professor Murray Smith from University of Kent in the United Kingdom and director Lars von Trier; interviews with various cast and crew members; making of fetaturette; footage from the film's premiere at the Cannes Film Festival; theatrical trailers and more. Antichrist' is all about the melding of fantasy and reality, and this section of the documentary brings up all the artifice: the various cameras, the visual effects, animals, etc.The transfer handles both modes quite well and is just a gorgeous, nearly jaw-dropping transfer that always looks "filmic" even if it was shot digitally. Written while on the road to recovery following a serious bout of depression, Lars Von Triers film seems to portray one mans fears and discomfort out in the public view. Antichrist is divided into four chapters – Grief, Pain (Chaos Reigns), Despair (Gynocide), and The Three Beggars - each focusing on the complex process of coming to terms and eventually overcoming the loss of a loved one. Blacks are deep and dark, skin tones look solid and the transfer eloquently reproduces the various stylistic modes von Trier is putting forth – the dreamier sequences have a hazy, blurry look (that's not a deficiency of the transfer), while other things has a crisp, documentary-like realism. Similar to Gaspar Noe's Irreversible, it has truly managed to get a number or people, including some prominent critics, out of their comfort zones.
