And I was also willing to accept that there was some variable I was not considering, which is why I asked a question, instead of just making a flat-out accusation. The simplicity of the system makes it difficult to convey just how effective it is. But like Canon's latest AF system, you need only indicate to the camera what you want to focus on and it'll use the most appropriate of its powerful AF algorithms to maximize your hit rate. Until you've used a system like this, or the comparable one in recent Canon cameras, it's difficult to appreciate how powerful, reliable and simple they can be. Video The Sony A7 IV might look like a clone of its predecessor, but there are quite a few subtle upgrades that collectively make it a much more enjoyable camera to use. But CFexpress Type A cards are also rarer and pricier than the Type B cards favored by Nikon, Canon and Panasonic, so you'll have to weigh up whether you really need them. Speedy UHS-II SD cards may well be enough for you, and A7 IV's second card slot does only support SD cards. Sony A7 IV review: features and autofocus

Don't get me started on the "High tech Side" of the things. This guys are so disconnected to the real high tech world that it is really amazing how actually they survive...... This table should make clear that the a7 IV is well specced, but not to the point of standing out from its less expensive rivals. As such, it's going to be the real-world performance of the AF system, the degree of rolling shutter in its 4K footage, and its ability to maintain its 10fps burst rate for many hundreds of images that will need to set it apart. The Focus Map function cannot be used under the following conditions: when shooting stills, when the Focus Magnifier function is in use, when using digital zoom, during USB streaming, when no lens is mounted, when an A-mount lens is mounted, or when using the SEL16F28. For other lenses, please use the latest firmware. Redefining a new standard of Full-Frame cameras, the Alpha 7 IV seamlessly merges outstanding 33MP image quality, 4K 60p video recording, refined handling and fast sharing abilities making it the perfect hybrid camera. With top of the line Real-time autofocus in photo and video, the Alpha 7 IV gives the power of Sony’s best technology into the hands of creators and professionals. BREATHTAKING IMAGE QUALITY With a refined design, the Alpha 7 IV includes a fast and clear 3.69M dots electronic viewfinder, a new 3'' vari-angle touchscreen monitor and a 5 axis In-Body Image Stabilisation (IBIS) system for a comfortable and stable shooting experience. With the inclusion of Sony's intuitive new touch capable menu system, a dedicated Photo/Video/S&Q dial, and a dual card slot, switch seamlessly from photo and video and focus on your creativity. The crop factors are another thing. If you want to shoot 4K 60p, the camera switches to a Super35 crop (roughly APS-C) to do it, and – annoyingly – it also crops in when you switch from regular video mode to the S&Q mode. So you can't just switch over to grab a bit of fast or slow-motion footage because your framing will change. Ultimately, you could just switch to Super35 mode from the outset to avoid these mid-shoot crop changes, but then you lose the advantage of full-width capture.

The Focus Map function cannot be used in the following conditions: When shooting stills, when the Focus Magnifier function is in use, when using digital zoom, during USB streaming, when no lens is mounted, when an A-mount lens is mounted, or when using the SEL16F28. The a7 IV gains the ability to close its mechanical shutter when the camera is turned off, helping to prevent dust build-up on the sensor. Shutter blades tend to be very lightweight, which also means they can be pretty fragile, so this should be seen as dust prevention, rather than a physical protection measure. BatteryIf you'd hoped the Sony A7 IV's new 33MP sensor might dramatically improve its image quality from the A7 III, you may be disappointed. The a7 IV's extensive customization and power come at the cost of complexity, though. Once you've explored the camera and configured it the way you want, you can ignore much of what lurks in the menus and just get out and shoot. But the ability to define virtually every behavior can be overwhelming. Even as an experienced enthusiast shooter, it was the simplicity of the AF system I appreciated much more than the extensive (excessive?) level of customization the camera offers. The Sony A7 IV has a new 33-megapixel sensor that offers significantly higher resolution for stills photography and also puts it one step ahead of similarly priced rivals from Nikon and Panasonic. However, the higher resolution does not make any difference to the maximum video resolution, which stays at 4K. 2. Maximum ISO (expanded) The a7 IV gains the ability to capture 10-bit compressed images, rather than just the 8-bit JPEGs historically offered. Unlike Canon, which only uses HEIF capture for HDR images, the Sony lets you shoot standard DR images in 10-bit, with a choice of 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 chroma sub-sampling, if you can find benefit to doing so.
