Mitch and Tate pull up to collect me from Kit’s house at five, and then we reach the race location with time to spare. I have my secret top on underneath my jumper and it’s making me emit a devilish glow. River Linton is finishing her Senior year of high school when she runs into Tate Coleson. About Me

I didn’t even think to shut my bedroom door because I’m home alone tonight. I can hear multiple male voices, fanning out downstairs. Loud and clear. The bell will ring any second now so I push myself off the wall and turn to walk to class. I feel Kit behind me but I can sense her potent glower on the boys up ahead. At the top of the stairs, wrapped up with a little ribbon, there is a tiny perfect wooden bookcase. I don’t know what sports he plays on which days, but I know that he does almost everything. Football. Basketball. Swimming, but that’s off campus. His arms were built to lift heavy things, and he has the biggest hands that I’ve ever seen. I watch them like a vulture as he handles his food in the cafeteria. And, unless my brain is glitching, there is a large dark tattoo – something like a cross and storm clouds and maybe some scripture – enveloping his swollen bicep.
