About this deal

Our worktops are supplied pre-sanded to a 150 grit finish, but sometimes it is worth going over the worktop yourself for an extra smooth surface. Use 120 grit orbital sanders all over, then finish by sanding the top and edges lightly with a pad. This will remove any splinters. As I haven't done this before I presume that you just run a cloth or pad of sorts over the finish gently to give the silky smooth finish? Thank you for getting in touch with your enquiry. There is a chance that it will help but its difficult to say for sure with out seeing the doors and the variance that you have experienced. I would be happy to take a look at some photos if you would like to send some in to [email protected]. Complete system for small area repair: consistent, pinpoint sanding of dirt nibs saves time and money

As mentioned above, it is vital that worktops are treated straight away – that is why our pre-installation oiling service is a mandatory requirement if purchasing another option from our bespoke cutting service (freshly cut timber can be susceptible to movement and therefore immediate oil treatment is required if wood is to be cut or altered in any way). Our pre-oiling service will ensure that your worktop reaches you in superb condition.I have heard that denibbing is a good thing to do after each coat of finish so I wanted to get some advice on where to get the pads from and what sort of grits? Available in two grades, 1000 and 2000. Use the 1000 grade disc for preparing panels for base coating before applying clear coats, keying alloy wheels and bumpers ready for refinishing. Use the 2000 grade disc for denibbing of water-base coats while the vehicles are in the spray booth.

It can be done with any oil finish and will just improve and smooth the surface for a slight more superior finish, if you don’t do it is not the end of the world, but it is something that we recommend. After that, it is easy! If you oil regularly for the first six weeks, the worktop will build up oil protection sufficient so that you may leave this and only re-oil once every three months. Repeat the process, turning when necessary and flipping as you go, until three coats have been applied to the top, bottom and sides (6 coats to the end grain). Denibbing pads may be used wet or dry for cleaning/removal of impurities, oxides and dirt. The three dimensional structure of the pads is easy to use on contoured surfaces and profiles, as well as areas which are difficult to reach. Mirka Mirlon pads are recomended when decorating for the removal of raised grain on timber after an initial coating has been applied, and recommended for denibbing between subsequent coats. Our 3M™ Perfect-It™ Denibbing System is a revolutionary way to remove dirt defects in auto body paint surfaces. With its lightweight, cordless, handheld 3M™ Perfect-It™ Denibbing Tool and abrasive stems, the system uses micro-sanding to eliminate the time and expense of sanding and polishing entire freshly-painted panels even for small repairs. Instead, you precisely remove individual dirt nibs and re-polish the surface. Each repair area is no larger than a U.S. quarter. This small area repair technique also significantly reduces water mess and compound slush, saving cleanup time. Mirka Mirlon denibbing pads are especially designed for sanding surfaces prior to the application of finishing coats, primers or lacquers. The pads work excellently when sanding wood, plastic, metal components as well as painted surfaces where their woven structure resists clogging. Also as the instructions on the tin say to sand the bare wood to 120 grit so I would need to use the same grit between coats and then like 600 grit after the final coat? Manns Finishing Pads to do this. Denib just like I did with the varnish, follow the grain work across the

Repeat the process – as many times as you desire. The more coats you apply in these early stages, the stronger and more attractive the timber will become. If you just applying a liquid or solid wax, or oil, that doesnt raise the grain so does not need denibbing. The worktops will be perfectly sealed with oil on the top, bottom, edges and end grain. We now use HABiol Oil throughout our pre-oiling service; this product is an ingression oil and as such requires fewer coats to achieve a durable, smooth finish. The cordless Perfect-it™ Denibbing Tool uses Trizact™ abrasive stems for consistent, pinpoint sanding of dirt nibs and very small repair areas. Unlike conventional abrasives, 3M™ Trizact™ products start sharp and stay sharp, resulting in more predictable finishes and improved, consistent quality. Trizact™ products last longer than conventional abrasives and provide precise finish control such that operators can reduce grade sequences, requiring fewer process steps and fewer abrasive products. Three-dimensional structures uniformly distributed over the entire abrasive surface enable consistent performance without product-to-product variation. Once the worktop is completely clean, you can begin to apply Rustin’s Danish oil, or our own Worktop Express Danish Oil for Worktops. Add a layer to the top and edges paying special attention to the end grain (this tends to be more absorbent than the rest of the worktop and may require extra coats). The Worktop Express® pre-installation oiling service cuts out a lot of the legwork for you (see below for more information), but if you are planning on oiling worktops yourself or would simply like some top tips from our in-house oiling experts, please read on…
