About this deal

The Reactor is available with pots of three different capacities: 1 litre, 1.7 litre and 2.5 litre. We've been testing the smallest size, which seems the most versatile for solo or two-person use. However although the pot does hold 1L, its max safe limit in use is marked on the pot as only 0.5 litres, which does seem a bit misleading (you need the extra height to accommodate the violent boiling!). The rest of the stove seems to be made out of numerous other metals including stainless steel and brass. The body might be a mix of titanium and other metals. It doesn’t look like solid titanium, but it doesn’t look like the typical aluminum alloy that you usually see either. A good practice to get into when getting a new campstove is to set it up in your kitchen and cook on it for a few days using different pots and pans until you get a feel for what works best. This way you can be certain that your expectation will match reality when you are out there in the wild for the first time with the new stove. Do you need a windscreen for the BRS 3000T stove? Alcohol stoves are cheap to buy or make, they weigh close to nothing, and their fuel is easy to find. Heet (in the yellow bottle) is a gas-line antifreeze made for cars that is commonly used as fuel for alcohol stoves. You can find Heet at most gas stations and almost anywhere with a small auto department. For this, you’ll want a liquid fuel or four-season stove. We’ve found liquid fuel stoves to be the most reliable choice in winter. Other Considerations

Maximum Efficiency: Patent-pending radiant burner, heat exchanger and internal pressure regulator produce best-in-class, fuel-sipping efficiency in all conditionsNote that the Stealth ignition is optional. A version of the Soto Amicus is available without the ignition. What’s nice is this stove’s pot supports are wide enough for a variety of cookware sizes (we tried it with 1-2L pots and an 8-inch pan). Let food soak. Put food and water in the pot when you turn the stove on, then once boiled, turn the fuel off and let the food continue to soak. The ability to regulate the gas control easily means the BRS-3000T is effective in simmering if required. Again, this stove is better used for shorter amounts of time, so if you are simmering, keep an eye on the pot supports to ensure they’re not getting too hot. This is not a stove you want to cook rice from scratch in a large pot. Liquid fuel stoves work well in below-freezing conditions and their fuel ( white gas) is cheaper than canister stove fuel. Some liquid fuel stoves can be used with different fuel types (like kerosene and unleaded auto fuel), which makes them a good fit for international trips where isobutane canisters and white gas will be harder to find. if you’re planning to make big group meals in large pots (like scouts or guide services), a liquid fuel stove could be a better fit because they have stable bases and more cost effective fuel.

This change of mind return policy is in addition to, and does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law including any rights you may have in respect of faulty items. The BRS-3000T does not have a pressure regulator. In case you’re unfamiliar with what a pressure regulator does, it keeps the flame consistent despite the pressure in the canister. Stoves that don’t have regulators need to be constantly monitored and adjusted to keep the cook flame consistent. Weight is another consideration. If you are going on a 2-day overnight, weight won’t matter as much as, say, a 30-day wilderness trek.At first glance, we had concerns about the scalloped, curvy pot stand lips (which are designed to be compatible with BioLite’s pot and grill cookware). But upon testing, we had no issues balancing off-brand pots as well, even a small 1L pot. The weight of the Amicus is generally in line with other stoves of its class, however there are higher end stoves like the Snow Peak LiteMax that are quite a bit lighter. There are also some really inexpensive stoves coming out of China like the FMS-116T at 1.7 oz/48 g (sold in the US as the Olicamp Kinetic Ultra), the FMS-300T at 1.6 oz/45g (sold in the US as the Olicamp Ion Micro), or the incredibly light BRS-3000T at 0.9 oz/25 g. Note however that none of the stoves out of China has anywhere near as good pot stability, and neither do they have the sophisticated ignition of a Soto stove. But each to his or her own I suppose.
