About this deal

They are vitally instructive, but they do not themselves give you the power you need to obey the instruction. These well-meaning followers of Christ are genuinely seeking something great in their Christian journey.

Ortund's teaching recognizes who we are before a Holy God and reminds us that it is not a fast walk to arrive. He is an editor for the Knowing the Bible series and the Short Studies in Biblical Theology series, and is the author of several books, including Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers. It's a great teaching tool for an individual, a parent, or a small group to navigate through and improve or learn how to focus on God's Word. This book makes the case that a believer’s sanctification does not happen by doing more or becoming better, but by going deeper into the wondrous gospel truths that washed over them when they were first united to Christ. In this follow-up to Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers, Ortlund explains that sanctification does not happen by doing more or becoming better, but by going deeper into the gospel truths that washed over us when we were first united with Christ. I reviewed one of the titles in this series before ( Rejoice and Tremble: The Surprising Good News of the Fear of the Lord) and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s then, as you give up on yourself and throw your hands up in the air, that your heart is most fertile for the supernaturalizing power of the Holy Spirit” (167). Understanding this doctrine helps us make sense of Paul’s answer to the question in Romans 6, “Why not continue in sin”?Ortlund rejects the common evangelical push to do better and be better types of lifestyles and instead draws our eyes back to our Savior as the means by which we are to grow. I see a lot of reviewers saying the characters are not likable and that is why they give it a lower rating and I simply don't get that way of thinking. To add even more confusion to this review, as I read I thought that I’d really love others to read and be inspired to grow in Christ because of this book. First, some of the language of the book could be taken to suggest a sanctification model that stresses a moment of change (Keswick/Higher Life Theology). Having marinated in the wisdom, beauty, and encouragement of Dane’s new book, I totally understand why my friend chose deeper as the primary image for the title.

But without the pursuit of a deeper (think closer) relationship with Jesus, these activities are incomplete. As much as any living author, Dane Ortlund has helped me to believe again by reacquainting me with the stunning tenderness and beauty of Jesus. O ile początek słuchałam z zainteresowaniem, to niestety im dalej w las, tym czułam się zmęczona (trochę uratował to koci Łowca, bo to jedna z moich ulubionych postaci tutaj).

The BCC exists to strengthen churches, para-church organizations, and educational institutions by promoting excellence and unity in biblical counseling as a means to accomplish compassionate outreach and effective discipleship. The central challenge that Deeper addresses is the reader’s fight against three-step, punchy, alliterated solutions to problems only solvable through union with Christ. I have since bought the book for everyone in my church small group and want to come back to it again myself. It was also interesting to think about how biblical meditation is different to mindfulness but also where there are overlaps. He serves as an editor for the Knowing the Bible series and the Short Studies in Biblical Theology series, and is the author of several books, including Gentle and Lowly and Edwards on the Christian Life.

It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you… Christ is its grand subject, our good its design, and the glory of God its end. A worthy followup to Gentle and Lowly, showing the reader how to move on and apply that which was often only implied in the previous. It’s like it resulted In a sort of reflected emphasis or slight fuzziness to truths that might be better stated with primary clarity.

If we are told its impossible and a character has the conviction to fight that and make it topside no matter what there's an end game.
