I see a lot of reviewers saying the characters are not likable and that is why they give it a lower rating and I simply don't get that way of thinking. To add even more confusion to this review, as I read I thought that I’d really love others to read and be inspired to grow in Christ because of this book. First, some of the language of the book could be taken to suggest a sanctification model that stresses a moment of change (Keswick/Higher Life Theology). Having marinated in the wisdom, beauty, and encouragement of Dane’s new book, I totally understand why my friend chose deeper as the primary image for the title.

But without the pursuit of a deeper (think closer) relationship with Jesus, these activities are incomplete. As much as any living author, Dane Ortlund has helped me to believe again by reacquainting me with the stunning tenderness and beauty of Jesus. A worthy followup to Gentle and Lowly, showing the reader how to move on and apply that which was often only implied in the previous. It’s like it resulted In a sort of reflected emphasis or slight fuzziness to truths that might be better stated with primary clarity.

If we are told its impossible and a character has the conviction to fight that and make it topside no matter what there's an end game.
