About this deal

This volume presents the full New Testament and the Psalms, and a comprehensive set of study notes, cross-references and book introductions. I have used the Jerusalem Bible for more than 45 years (first the original French translation, then the English translations). According to the notes, more weight will be given to the Septuagint in the translation of the Hebrew Bible Scriptures, though the Masoretic Text will remain the primary source. The revised text is accompanied by new introductions, and textual and liturgical notes, supplemented as needed with material from the notes to the New Jerusalem Bible.

TJB has always been one of my favorite translations because it’s accurate (it’s easy to ignore and overlook obvious doctrinal biases when they occasionally appear), it’s hasn’t been dumbed down but actually challenges the reader to study and pray about what God is saying. That’s not a bad thing, as it could be very accurate in translating the thoughts of the original language. This claims to be the Reader's Edition (which should contain colour and black and white maps, a Chronological Table, Tables of Measures and Money) but it is actually just the Popular Edition (without the aforementioned extras). Substantially revising the JB and NJB texts, the new translation "applies formal equivalence translation for a more accurate rendering of the original scriptures, sensitivity to readable speech patterns and more inclusive language".Using definitive original language texts such as the Dead Sea Scrolls, biblical scholars of L'École Biblique in Jerusalem produced a meticulously accurate, wonderfully readable French translation of the complete canon of Scripture (La Bible de Jérusalem). The first edition, containing the New Testament and the Psalms, was published in February 2018, and the full Bible in July 2019. Like the Jerusalem Bible, the New Jerusalem Bible makes the uncommon decision to render God's name, the Tetragrammaton in the Jewish scriptures, as Yahweh rather than as " Lord", in 6,823 places in the NJB Old Testament. The language, concepts and imagery of the original scriptures are presented more accurately by the RNJB than the colloquial approach of many other modern translations. My main issue is the HORRIBLE typeface, that is completely inconsistent which strains the eyes making it an unpleasurable reading experience.

I lead Scripture study and recommend it to everyone - not as their primary Bible, but as an addition. The notes for short like the ones in the New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition, similar in length to that of the Canadian Bible Society. As a Roman Catholic Bible, it includes the deuterocanonical books along with the sixty-six others included in Protestant Bibles. It is a Bible that prioritises accuracy of translation and richness of tone, written that ‘the message might be fully proclaimed’ (2 Ti 4:17). Unlike other Catholic Bibles I have reviewed on The Catholic Man Reviews, there are not any “extra” features, such as an appendix, glossary or maps.

Using definitive original language texts such as the Dead Sea Scrolls, biblical scholars of L'Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem produced a meticulously accurate, wonderfully readable French translation of the complete canon of Scripture (La Bible de Jerusalem). But for a Reader’s Editionof The Jerusalem Bible, I was not too keen on this type of verse referencing. This handy Pocket Edition presents the New Jerusalem Bible in an easily accessible and manageable form suitable for all readers. g. Dominican scholar monks at the Ecole biblique et archéologique française de Jérusalem, with the intention of keeping the original text meaning intact. I like the Jerusalem Bible translation, but this edition is honestly more of Bible for home study, for those who want to read and use a Catholic translation with a separate commentary.

For the majority of the books, the English translation was a translation of the Hebrew and Greek texts; in passages with more than one interpretation, the interpretation chosen by the French translators is generally followed.I saw that one person's review said that Chapter 7 of Isaiah was missing, so I checked and the one I just received has that chapter included so if it was a previous mistake it has been corrected.
