About this deal

require a combined programmer and thermostat with an ‘advanced’ energy saving feature. Namely: weather compensation, load compensation or smart controls that combine automation and optimisation features. (Or you can fit a flue gas recovery unit.) New installations of a heat only or system boiler: Configuration of the TRVs is super flexible, and multiple units can be combined into a single zone. This is particularly handy if you’ve got rooms with multiple radiators. Schedules can conveniently be copied between zones and days, so you don’t have to program every single change. We found that it took us a few weeks to get our schedules right, but we ended up only heating zones as we needed them. A second option would be to remove the head from a noise sensitive room but leave the rest of the house zoned.

The Honeywell evohome HR92UK Radiator controller (HR92) allows control of individual radiators and zones using an evohome controller. The evohome controller is able to time and temperature control up to 12 heating zones using multiple HR92UK’s. Every heating zone has the ability to be independently time and temperature controlled up to six times per day. So I would suggest putting your HR92's side by side and testing each one on the same radiator to see how noisy they are and find the quietest ones for the bedrooms. Other than that I can't see much else you can do, other than enclose the HR92 and use a remote temperature sensor like a DTS92. (I use a DTS92 in the bedroom for other reasons anyway) must have ‘time and temperature controls’ namely a programmable room thermostat or a thermostat with separate programmer. You can still opt to install an advanced control. Existing boiler installations: In contrast to the hardware, the app is beautifully designed. It’s very clearly laid out, with color coding for temperatures allowing you to identify at a glance the temperature for each room of your house. Performance This was something of a revelation when we got it to work. The apartment we were testing the Evohome in is one of those properties where every room is a different temperature, and what this means is that we always heat to the right level for the living room, but then go through to a cold bedroom. Not so with the Evohome – it was the first time since we moved in that the bedroom had been warmer than the living room.

This isn’t technically part of the installation, but it’s worth remembering when calculating the cost, as you don’t have this issue with a direct thermostat replacement like the Nest Learning Thermostat. Design Installation of the Evohome system is a little more involved than with some other smart thermostats available due to the fact that each radiator in your house needs to be fitted with an individual thermostat. Both Vaillant and Worcester use load compensation making the combined TRV and smart control set up incredibly efficient

We are currently using Royal Mail Parcelforce and DPD as our delivery providers, all small items will be delivered by Royal Mail, these can take up to three working days to reach you. A more efficient feature of the Nest and Honeywell Evohome is that they can reduce how much gas the boiler uses – this is call load compensation. However both the boiler and control must speak the same ‘language’, called Opentherm. For compatible boilers and smart controls read our Guide to Opentherm compatible controls and boilers. Wireless TRVs You can control the temperature directly from the radiator thermostat, from the control terminal, from your phone, and even using your voice by asking Alexa. It’s truly remarkable how simple it is for something so versatile and useful. We disliked There’s no built-in geofencing, so you can’t turn off your heating automatically when you go out. Alternatively, you can use IFTTT to adjust your heating automatically. Using the Life360 service, for example, you can turn off your heating when you go out and turn it on when you return.

We found the TRVs a little loud, and you can hear a small mechanical whine as they turn on. It took us a few weeks to get used to this in the bedroom, but we could sleep through the noise in the end. The Evohome can even work out how long it takes to heat a room to a particular temperature, and turn on the radiator the appropriate amount of time before a scheduled window so the room is exactly the right temperature when you walk through the door. And figuring out the temperatures that different rooms needed to be at to feel comfortable was something of an issue for the first few days. It’s definitely a more labor-intensive process to figure out the heating requirements of each room and the schedules, and we didn’t get it right for the first few days, leading to some cold evenings and hot nights. The Honeywell Evohome delivers brilliantly on its gambit: making zonal temperature control child’s play. If all you’re looking for is a system that allows you total control over the temperature of your house, even when you’re not there, get this one. All of the individual components of the Evohome setup are made of the same white plastic, which is disappointing when some of the competition have clearly put a lot of thought into their designs.
