The Dukes of Nofolk have always carried a bag made from unicorn hide when performing their duty as Earl Marshal at the state opening of Parliament. For the rest of the year it is displayed in a glass case in the Barons' Hall at Arundel Castle and can only be handled with special 'magic' gloves. Unicorn NOT Wanted is a lively, charming book which recalls the tale of a unicorn and a pug as they continuously insert themselves into the narrator's story about the Wild West. The illustrations are bright and fun, and the humour will surely entertain young readers. Definitely, a book I would recommend. Fred never wanted to be an astronaut or drive a train when he grew up. Right from the beginning he knew he wanted to draw silly pictures for a living... and some decades later he's living the dream!

I think it’s charming and heart-warming with lots of bright, cheerful colors and funny lines. I think kids will engage with this story and want to hear it over and over.Such a funny picture book that DOES NOT include a unicorn and a pug. The story is lovely and entertaining. It follows a conversation between the narrator and two characters: a unicorn and a pug. They are both not allowed in the story! But will they take part in the end? And would we have another unicorn story?

This is NOT a story about unicorns. Or pugs. It is set in the Wild West, with cowboys. But hang on a minute – who’s that? It’s a unicorn! I said no unicorns allowed. Oh, she’s crying now. OK, fine, you can have a small part. I said small…The illustrations are energetic and funny, and the unicorn and pug continue to insert themselves in the author's Wild West story in amusing ways. However, there have been so many meta children's stories like this in recent years that this one doesn't especially stand out, except for major unicorn fans and kids who, like the book's narrator, are tired of the unicorn trend. My Final Say: Kids will adore this book. Families will have a great time together as they read through this work. Librarians will rush to add this title to their story time hour. Lovers of kid lit will totally appreciate the ADVENTURE, DRAMA, ACTION, and...COWBOYS! (See what I did there? 😁) The added bonus with this super fun read was...the word play and the use of exclamatory statements! It made the story that much more entertaining. The illustrations are also fantastic. The unicorn is the perfect amount of derpy looking and the facial expressions are super detailed and expressive. Author/Illustrator Fred Blunt wants to write a simple book set in the Wild West. He wants to write about cowboys and a sheriff and maybe a deputy. He wants horses and cacti. Blunt keeps telling them that this is a book that does not have a unicorn. But the unicorn and pug will not be stopped. They will do anything it takes to be in the book. Well, almost anything. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own." My unicorn loving 4 year old adored this book - she was in fits of giggles and love the illustrations. As the parent reading, I wish it had a little more to the story, it seemed rather abrupt.. but I would still recommend for all the unicorn and pug loving littles in your life!
