About this deal

Enter Suma Suzume, the 24-year-old daughter of Dr. Suma Ichirou. She has just started working as a zookeeper at Enoshima Dinoland, 15 years after the terrible accident that occurred there. Determined, optimistic, and passionate, Suzume hopes to reinvigorate public interest in dinosaurs. But with Dinoland having been struggling for so long with insufficient staff and funding to take care of its 72 individual dinosaurs (plus pterosaurs and marine reptiles), Suzume will have a lot of work cut out for her.

This manga had many superficial aspects that tried desperately to conceal it, but at the core of Sanctuary is the wish-fulfillment found at the core of most harem manga. It's a much different take on wish-fulfillment, and I give it some credit for that, but it is poor writing nonetheless. I was also offended by the depiction of women and the depiction of Cambodians. Manga may not be the place to demand political correctness, but flat characters are a byproduct of these depictions and it really interferes with enjoyment of the manga anyway. Just reading the synopsis of Sanctuary manga was enough to spark a interest in me; being deeply interested in politics, I was ecstatic to find a political thriller manga. I thought this might be a gateway for me to explore and know more about the Japanese politics. I arrived at this manga as it was compared to Code Geass and was recommended to the former's fans. That itself was enough for me to hold this manga at a high place and I was totally excited to devour 108 chapters with all its political strategies and mind games that go along with it. But, boy Unfortunately, from an objective point of view, I couldn't have been more wrong. It was childish idealism at the time. Angel Sanctuary the OAV is impossibly hard to review because it is based on what is in my opinion, one of the greatest andOricon News (in Japanese). 7 December 2020. Archived from the original on 5 May 2023 . Retrieved 3 May 2023. This is a political strategic mind-battle manga dappled with intrigue, violence and provoking messages to the reader. It doesn’t mean this series is something overwhelming and stilted, though. The scope is indeed epic: from one’s dignity and pride to ideological inconsistencies and the world peace, - however downright realistic.

Career-Ending Injury: Masaru the Triceratops was once one of Japan's most popular captive dinosaurs, but he accidentally broke one of his horns. Although the injury was ultimately superficial, his popularity plummeted, leading him to be sold off to Dinoland and replaced by another Triceratops with fully intact horns.Chunichi Shimbun (in Japanese). 30 April 2023. it is a realistic one most of the time and you cannot expect and over the edge extreme twist. It's mostly political turn, even the yakuza part. According to the Yomiuri Shimbun, Kan Eguchi asked Wataru Ichinose for a different acting style, focusing on "mental armour" to set him apart from other actors playing wrestlers. Eguchi also forbade Ichinose to interact with the other actors and members of the technical team before certain scenes. [9] Reception [ edit ] Written by Sho Fumimura (aka Buronson) and drawn by Ryoichi Ikegami, Sanctuary is an engrossing epic that validates manga as a medium, it defines it; transcends it. In short it deserves the title of masterpiece.Pineda, Rafael (January 19, 2022). "Seven Seas Licenses 'Imaginary,' 'Dinosaurs Sanctuary' Manga". Anime News Network . Retrieved July 15, 2023. Kyoko Ishihara - The new female deputy chief police inspector that looks into Hojo's criminal activities. Personally, this is (well, almost) the kind of manga I've been always searching for. In other words, a manga with:

Count the amount of panels in Sanctuary that are just reaction face images. It's at least a third of the entire series. 1/3 of the series is nothing but extraneous close ups of people's faces. My favorite is the face gazing to the heavens at inappropriate intervals even if they are facing each other. Naturally with a story and cast of such epic proportions, one expects some face recognition panels to remind the reader, but Sanctuary takes it to an absurd level where in every meeting there is recap face panel of every member there. No matter what type of action is happening, expect a face shot of every character there. Even worse is the double zoom face panel when the main characters speaks. Sometimes it gets more absurd when it turns into the triple zoom when they zoom into the eyes. The intricate webs of conspiracy and connections are very interesting to see, and their ideas are fairly interesting. Asami and Hojo indeed move the plot and are amazing characters, some of the best i've seen, they are smart and cunning and rather complex. The political issues at stake and focused on in this manga can also be of great interest to non-Japanese readers. Americans, for example, know all too well that unless you're a democrat or republican you have no chance at gaining power of the White House. More recently in the 21st century we've seen crusty old Japanese Prime Ministers resign one after another. The two main characters of Sanctuary seek to usurp the current system of Japan; that of politics being controlled by old men who oversee a system that will never allow anyone under 40 to gain any real power, and to even clean up the yakuza gangs constantly at war with each other, and their ambition is as great as everything else within these 105 chapters. Judging by one kid's response to Suzume pointing out that birds are dinosaurs, the BAND ( Birds Are Not Dinosaurs) movement apparently still exists in this universe, despite bird-like feathered dinosaurs being alive to provide more than enough evidence for the dinosaur-bird connection. a b Gunning, John (19 April 2023). Id say this is a very good manga- if you can appreciate oldshcool themes. like nail80 said-theres alot of patriotism going on. I personaly dont mind the machoism-more to the point, it was actualy refreshing to read a story that wasnt neutered so that it wouldnt offend people, or try to endear any current themes/politics (e.g peace and love, no nukes, whatever) Written by Itaru Kinoshita, the series began serialization in Shinchosha's Monthly Comic Bunch magazine on March 19, 2021.
