About this deal

While there isn't an official Christmas lights switch-on in Edinburgh city centre in Christmas 2023, there will be a number of events around the city. If you are thinking of hosting an outdoor party and want to do so in the evening, then you will probably be thinking of two functional and decorative elements that will add life to the party and create the perfect party atmosphere. At the same time, you also want something reliable that will last.

South Queensferry Christmas lights switch-on and Santa parade from 5.45pm in High Street on Thursday, November 23 It is hoped the new lighting in these popular areas can help reassure park users and encourage people to visit or travel through parks and open spaces. The Solar Centre was the first company to bring solar fairy lights and solar string lights to the UK market.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are host of Christmas events taking place in Edinburgh this festive period, from markets to ice skating, Santa's Grottos and funfairs. By definition, festoon lighting refers to an arrangement of festoon led lights along a string-like formation with each led bulb connected directly to all the other within the series. Below is a current range of festoon style outdoor lights. Years of selling and designing solar lights have taught us that solar lights with separate solar panels always perform better. Lumify is a 3 piece system consisting of the solar panel, control tube and light string. The solar panel is connected to control tube by a 2m cable and there is 2m of cable between the control tube and the first LED bulb on the light string. This means that you can get your solar panel in a great location (the higher up the better) but still have your control tube within easy reach. Water ingress is one of the main reasons solar lights fail. Lumify uses an innovative new tube design which guarantees unrivalled waterproofing. The battery compartment, power switch, mode switch and USB charging port are all protected under an o-ring sealed screw cap which offers bottle-tight waterproofing. Both the solar panel and LED string are connected into the base of the tube using o-ring sealed valve connectors so there are no weak points. We must also of course consider getting the right balance for needs of people and wildlife and steps will be taken to ensure the new lighting is not at the expense of biodiversity.”

Lumify have been designed to be used outdoors where they will withstand everything the British weather can throw at them, but that doesn't mean you can't use them indoors too! Simply remove the battery, disconnect the solar panel and plug them in to a USB charging source where they can operate indoors like normal mains powered lights. Post-pandemic our parks and open spaces throughout the city have increased even further in popularity and continue be essential to modern life in the capital. They also provide havens for wildlife as well as important routes for people to move around the city by cycle and on foot. Edinburgh's Christmas tree lights will be switched on at around 4.30pm on Monday, November 20 at Mound Place. Each of the proposed lighting designs must also consider improving lines of sight, the proximity of entrances and exits, vegetation overgrowth, use of the space, and the importance of routes to local communities.

Lumify is our third generation USB solar string light product and by far the best. We have learnt a lot from our customers since we started designing solar lights ten years ago and all that knowledge and experience has been poured into the Lumify design making them by far the most advanced solar lighting product we have ever launched. Up and down wall lights are a contemporary choice for exterior door lighting, with a sleek fitting that emits light from the top to the bottom of the light to illuminate your wall. Supplied complete with their fixings and fitting instructions for easy installation, our water-resistant lights are simple to install. Lumify has 8 lighting modes including all sorts of flashing and alternating sequences as well as steady on where all lights stay on all the time with no flashing. Steady on is by far the most popular mode among our own customers so we have made this mode the first mode and the default mode on Lumify. Once you have selected your favourite mode Lumify will remember that setting and light up in that mode automatically each night. But the council heard that there are additional considerations to be taken in parks in comparison to streets and roads as lighting outdoor space has to combine technical solutions with the unique features of green space environments. The Depute Lord Provost Lezley Marion Cameron will give a short proclamation and Vestland County Council will declare the lights on.

In recent years, requests for park lighting have increased. This is in part due to increased numbers of people having enjoyed opportunities for exploring local parks and open spaces during the pandemic, as well as improving safety within and through parks, particularly for women and young girls who often feel most at risk at night when walking alone in or near open spaces.

However, for many, these can be unwelcoming places, especially after dark, when fear of crime and concerns for personal safety are heightened. We of course recognise the community’s concerns and the need for these spaces to be safe and accessible for all users so I’m delighted that we are able to progress with illuminating existing paths in many of our parks and open spaces. We know where the first changes will be made but I hope through match funding we can roll these improvements out further across the city. Powersaving mode is for those that don't have a great solar panel location available and aren't able to USB charge. Lumify's advanced Powersaving mode reduces brightness slightly which doubles the runtime of the lights. Culture and Communities Convener Cllr Val Walker, said: “In Edinburgh we’re extremely fortunate to have nearly 200 parks and open spaces to visit across the city and we want to make sure that they all remain accessible, safe, sustainable and of course open to the public for generations to come. This can include supporting valuable habitats for wildlife, trees, historic buildings and monuments, as well as spaces for events, sport, active travel routes and traffic-free places.
