About this deal

Doma nd Sorasa if they don't get together i will kill them myself. they like almost hate each other. they keep teasing each other. SO if it doesn't happen I will ahhhhhhhhhh To say those hopes were not met is an understatement. This book just could not do it for me, and I don’t know why.

The characters are brave, ruthless, snarky, and full of wits. They are all so different, that you are almost sure to love at least one of them. I enjoyed the different POVs, but sadly this book as a whole failed to really grab my attention. She’s so ~special~! She can speak half a dozen languages and knows almost every kingdom on the map and she’s an accomplice to her mother, who is a pirate! And she doesn’t fit in with the crowd because of her ~heritage~ and she has to ~save the world.~ A strange darkness grows in Allward even Corayne an-Amarat can feel it in her small town at the edge of the sea. The long lost heir to an ancient lineage, it’s not until Corayne meets a rag-tag group of companions that she learns how to wield the magic slumbering in her blood—and how together they might stop what’s coming. I can't imagine living for a thousand years and still being so stupid...It's almost an accomplishment.” First of all, the writing felt very stilted. It might be the fantasy world and/or the different characters, but the emotions and narratives in Red Queen came across so much stronger in comparison to this book. I know I shouldn’t compare them, but still. I was just expecting more.If you follow Victoria Aveyard on social (and you definitely should), then you know how much she loves a good map. Well so do we, and we are very excited to share that the map below will be printed inside all copies of Realm Breaker! Welcome to the realm of Allward, also called the Ward. Without thinking, Andry raised his own fingers, palm open, an offer as much as a plea. “With me,” he said. “Together.”

And how do I defend against such a thing, Squire?” the Elder demanded, his voice rising. “How do I fight what I cannot face?” Andry could have been so much better if he’d gotten development. I would like to say I liked him the most out of all the characters, but I honestly don’t remember most of his chapters. He was nice and he did his best, and he cared for his mom. He was a sweet character, but too boring for me to enjoy that. The potential was there. Realm Breaker has an interesting premise but sadly it didn’t live up to it. While the world-building was well-executed and we had a ragtag to save the world (which I usually love), the story itself was underwhelming mostly because of its bland characters. Domacridhan, or Dom is the immortal MC. His POV’s are just okay. Like I think by now you can see a pattern. He isn’t that interesting, has no actual personality and overall doesn’t bring anything new to the book. He’s the immortal who refuses to feel anything trope , but made 10x more boring and uninteresting.Okay, so Corayne is the daughter of a pirate. The pirate is not just some pirate but a very dangerous one. She pleads with her mom to let her go on the ships, but her mom refuses. It’s no coincidence these openings in the realm are cropping up. Taristan, a man with Spindleblood and a Spindleblade, is creating them with the intent of creating chaos and handing a world that’s wronged him to a much greater villain: What Waits. Allward’s equivalent of the devil, What Waits is thought to be a children’s story by those residing there — but then, most of the characters don’t believe Spindles exist when the novel opens either.

I knew this wouldn’t make me fangirl over it the way Red Queen did, because I was twelve when I read Red Queen and I have different standards now, and I haven’t seen a lot of my friends enjoying this book, but I wanted to at least have some fun with it. I expected something that I would like - I mean, it’s a fantasy written by an author I used to obsess over. In this part of the world, where the east and west began to collide, it was difficult to seem out of place, even for them. An immortal Veder, a Jydi witch, a copper-eyed assassin, a royal squire, a criminal fugitive, and the pirate’s daughter, the Ward’s hope.” Dom is supposed to be an cruel immortal. But omg he is soo innocent and cute. I soo respect the author for reversing the gender roles for making the Female characters strong and the fighters and making the guys very cute and cinnamon rollish

Did we miss something on diversity?

Dom failed to hide a smirk. He did not speak Madrentine, but by now he knew that Corayne most likely did. With the same twist of her lips, Sarn met his eye, sharing his sentiments for once. The Companions are scattered and hopeless, torn from each other. After Corayne barely escapes with her life, she must forge on alone, leaving her blade broken and her allies behind her. Her only consolation—Corayne now has Taristan's sword, the only Spindleblade left in existence. Without it, he can’t rip open any more Spindles. Without it, he can’t end the world. Understand well that Corayne and Andry have known each other for a brief while before this, they’ve little to no chemistry and, yet, this is a wink-wink, nudge-nudge sent by the author, saying “aww, they’re so in love. Even their friends see it!” It’s like she’s trying to convince us they should be together rather than allowing things to happen organically. Cut out the romance, Aveyard, please. The book is flying without it. It’s really not needed, especially when it is the most boring ship I’ve ever witnessed and is a prime example of why we need to get away from unnecessary YA tropes. The next few characters I'm going to talk very little about. Though I love them, I actually have no idea what to say about them and how to express my love for them

Something else common is that I have seen a lot of complaints from other reviewers about finding the world building in Realm Breaker confusing or too lengthy. I actually thought the world building was pretty easy to follow and that it wasn’t too elaborate. In fact, I still don’t feel I know much about the realm everyone’s trying to save and would even like to read more lore surrounding how the Elders exactly came to settle on this world and what their previous home was like. I also certainly don’t have a firm grasp of all of the different races and cultures populating the realm either. My description about Dom was accurate. He’s an elder, centuries old and while he doesn’t veer down the route of hitting on a twenty-year old, he’s just boring. He’s a character full of pride and justice. Whenever anyone makes a snarky remark, he scowls. He growls, glowers, glares, sours, snarls, you name it. And then I realised, I’ve seen this stiff-faced character a million times before and every time, they’re just as bad as before. I’ll compare him to Matthias from the SOC duology. I thought Matthias was the worst of the crows in the first book (great in Crooked Kingdom) and Dom’s personality is similar, but he’s actually less distinctive as a person. Please stop doing “gruff” and “honourable” characters if they can’t have a personality. If like us one of your favorite things about the later Red Queen books was getting new POVs in addition to Mare, then we have great news for you! Realm Breaker has SIX narrators that you’ll be rooting for—or maybe even start to despise. Hey, it wouldn’t be a Victoria Aveyard novel without some betrayal and plot twists so don’t say you weren’t warned… Instead of finding Corayne interesting or compelling, I actually enjoyed reading from Queen Erida’s perspective. Queen Erida marries Corayne’s uncle in a bid to eventually become Empress, and I enjoyed reading her trying to reconcile and justify her actions with herself. She is undoubtedly the most layered character in Realm Breaker. Before long, I realized my favorite narratives to read from were by far the villains of the novel, as the author wasn’t so painfully trying to convince me that these characters were cool. Instead, they’re simply bad people doing bad things, and it feels much more natural. Do I think Erida’s relationship with Taristan was worthy of all the enemies-to-lovers marketing? Absolutely not, but it’s the most entertaining thing I read in Realm Breaker. I am excited to see where the relationship between Erida and Taristan goes in the next novel in the series, Blade Breaker. World-building (it's very details, but the magic-system, and politics are hard to understand at first) And while the political climate was written really well, it felt overused. The kingdoms were well-defined but not really expounded upon unless they were brought into the plot. Basically, the geography and world felt really stale to me.
