About this deal

An ideal second lens, the SEL35F18 prime lens can handle anything from evening shots (thanks to the bright maximum aperture) to beautifully defocused portraits. An internal focusing mechanism means the lens barrel doesn’t move, enabling a more compact design, faster autofocus response, and reduced minimum focusing distances. The front and rear elements are concave (curve in), so don't worry: you're not missing part of your lens! The immortal LEICA SUMMICRON-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH FLE does the same thing for the same reason. Falloff is invisible with the camera's default correction ON (usually at MENU > Camera 1 > Lens Comp. > Shading Comp. > Auto). For landscapes and other shots where you're more concerned about ultimate resolution than shallow depth of field, we recommend working at f/4 (3,143 lines), f/5.6 (3,309 lines), or f/11 (2,974 lines). Diffraction reduces image quality at the narrowest settings—2,430 lines at f/16 and 1,384 lines at f/22.

The AF and OSS are almost silent, which is killer for filming when you need the audio from the camera. One other note that makes the Sony E-Mount lenses better than the competition for video in particular, is the focus transitioning technology. The focus transitions are very graceful when recording video with an ease in ease out effect. In photography mode it’s much faster and snappier compared to recording video. You can override the smooth transitions by pressing the shutter button while recording and that will jump-start the AF to wherever your trying to focus. The Sony SEL35F18 is a good fast prime lens that is sold at the price of SGD 629. It has the normal angle of view, smooth and creamy circular bokeh, no distortion, great OSS, and a large aperture for low-light scenes. Its focusing is pretty fast and accurately during daylight shooting. This next scene was taken just down the road from where we live and you may recall it from the Nex-5r review 😉 It’s a nice mural painted on an old wall with lots of detail for visual interest. I wanted to show off the depth of field offered by the large APS-C sensor of the Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras and the fast f/1.8 aperture of the Sony E 35mm f/1.8 OSS Lens. Sony Nex-5r w/ sel35f18 Lens @ f/5.6, 1/60sec, ISO 200, Handheld, slight vignette added A versatile, multi-purpose lens - with a focal length of 52.5mm (35mm equivalency) and F1.8 aperture, it’s good for snapshots, portraits, night shots and more It's tiny, focuses fast and silently, works great in low light, it's sharp and it's reasonably priced and has image stabilization. What more could you want? Lens sharpness has nothing to do with picture sharpness; every lens made in the past 100 years is more than sharp enough to make super-sharp pictures if you know what you're doing. The only limitation to picture sharpness is your skill as a photographer. It's the least talented who spend the most time worrying about lens sharpness. Skilled photographers make great images with whatever camera is in their hands; I've made some of my best images of all time with an irreparably broken camera! Most pixels are thrown away before you see them, but camera makers don't want you to know that.

It will not mount on any Sony A-mount DSLR or any Minolta MAXXUM 35mm SLR of any kind. Those use the old A mount which was actually the Minolta MAXXUM mount from 1987.There's a significant jump in resolution at f/2.8, to 2,534 lines, an excellent result. There is a drop in resolution as you move away from center, to about 2,100 lines—good, but not excellent. Smooth, silent operation - both the motor controlling focus and the one that controls aperture are quiet, smooth and unobtrusive, ideal for shooting video This lens is is all plastic on the inside, with a metal mount and aluminum vanity cover on the outside, so it weighs next to nothing. You can take it everywhere and have it ready for anything, or just use it all the time as your only and/or normal lens.
